- How Jalen Milroe leads Alabama football quarterback room
Jalen Milroe knows what Saturday felt like for Ty Simpson, Dylan Lonergan and Austin Mack.
The Alabama football redshirt junior starting quarterback's second appearance for the Crimson Tide came against Mercer , missing his first pass attempt and recording 33 rushing yards on seven carries, in Alabama 's 48-14 win Sept. 11, 2021.
It was another opportunity to play the game he loved, Milroe said, a chance to showcase the joy he has playing football, something he sees in Simpson, Lonergan and Mack each day.
"When you have guys who love it as well, it's nothing but passion that's poured into the football field," Milroe said. "That's what we have. That's the best thing about playing right now. We have a lot of guys that love playing football, that love the journey, that love the process. That's all that it's about is loving the journey and enjoying the process."
That process was in full display from Simpson, Lonergan and Mack Saturday against Mercer. More chances could come Saturday when the Crimson Tide travel to normal to face Oklahoma as 14-point favorites.
Milroe's approach with Simpson, Lonergan and Mack remains the same. It's preaching a consistent mindset, it's showcasing an example of kindness.
Milroe aims to show Simpson, Lonergan and Mack how the Alabama quarterback room should be led, something Milroe said they have adapted well to.
"With the guys in the room, I think we have a really good room when it comes to shared success, when it comes to guys that are working so hard," Milroe said. "Everyone's unique in their own way. The best thing about it is we have shared success. I think the best thing for me is taking the field with those guys Saturday, we come out of the tunnel all together. Just that small moment we share of running out on the field because people don't see the hard work that's done in the week. Everyone just sees the Saturdays, the hard work put on display going into a game or an opponent."
