The St. Louis Cardinals got some tough news on Sunday.

The Cardinals believe they have what it takes to stay in the playoff chase, and they showed that by taking two of three games from the veteran-laden Philadelphia Phillies. However, a daunting three-city, 11-game road trip with showdowns against the Cubs, Reds and Phillies looms.

Andre Pallante gave up four hits over six innings and Everson Pereira homered to help the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Philadelphia Phillies 2-0 on Tuesday night. Pereira hit his fifth homer of the season and first since being claimed off waivers by the Cardinals from the Chicago White Sox on Thursday in the eighth to give St. Louis a 2-0 lead.

Masyn Winn broke a scoreless tie with a game-winning RBI, Ryan Stanek pitched out of a bases loaded jam and newcomer Everson Pereira homered and made a stellar defensive play as the Cardinals beat the Phillies 2-0 at Busch Stadium.

Two days after claiming Everson Pereira off waivers, the Cardinals are giving their newest addition an immediate opportunity.

Everson Pereira, claimed on Friday by the Cardinals after being waived by the White Sox, has appeared in 27 MLB games this season and has five doubles, four homers and 11 RBI. Nelson Velazquez, who was used primarily against left-handed pitching, was designated for assignment.
