Andrés Chaparro homered twice and the Washington Nationals defeated the New York Mets 6-4 on Sunday in the season finale for both teams. Francisco Lindor hit his 300th career home run, Ronny Mauricio went deep for the third time in two days and rookie Carson Benge had three hits for his 45th multihit game and 14th with three or more for New York. The Mets, who opened the season with a major league-record $358.4 million payroll, slid nine games from last year to 74-88 — their worst mark since going 70-92 in 2017.
