The Michigan Wolverines' title defense is off and running. Roddy Gayle had a big night, but some others did not.

Michigan Basketball opened its national title defense with an 84-68 win over Oakland. Here’s the recap, highlights and stats:

Gayle is expected to play for the defending champion Wolverines against No. 10 Houston in an exhibition game on Sunday in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Gayle Jr. is expected to start for Michigan this season, but he wasn't seen on the court during the Wolverines' exhibition game.

For Michigan basketball, 2026=27 isn't about defending a title as much as creating 'its own legacy'

Both Kenny Noland and Roddy Gayle Jr. were added to Michigan's basketball roster.

A landmark court ruling grants the veteran guard a crucial fifth year, bolstering the Wolverines' backcourt depth just as injuries threaten their quest for consecutive national championships.
