- Questionable late penalty nullifies touchdown from Ryan Williams, Alabama vs Oklahoma
Another week, another questionable call from a college football officiating crew.
With No. 7 Alabama football trailing Oklahoma 24-3 at the beginning of the fourth quarter on Saturday in Norman, Oklahoma, Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe seemed to hit freshman sensation wide receiver Ryan Williams for a 36-yard touchdown to cut the lead to two scores.
Williams made the contested, acrobatic catch in the back of the end zone and got a foot tap in to make it a legal catch and touchdown. However, an official threw a late flag on the play, claiming Williams was covered up on the play and resulting in an illegal touching call.

That resulted in a 5-yard penalty, loss of downs and nullifying what might have been an offensive-sparking score. Because it was a fourth-down conversion, it resulted in a turnover on downs.
Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer, who is usually reserved, was irate with officials following the play, seeming to ask for an explanation on why the penalty was called.
The broadcasting crew of Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit, as well college football rules analyst Bill LeMonnier, agreed that Williams' penalty should never have been called, as he did not appear to be covered up on the play and was a legal receiver.
However, the play was also not reviewable.
Social media did not understand the call against Williams.
