Trevor Lawrence is the league's highest-paid player, or at least will be for the interim alongside Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow after his contract extension with the Jacksonville Jaguars kicks in, in 2026.
Lawrence's extension with the Jaguars includes a total of $275 million over five years, with $200 million in practical guaranteed money. That amounts to $55 million per year over the final five years of the deal. In essence, Lawrence's deal with Jacksonville is for seven years through the 2030 season. Lawrence stands to make $306 million in total value, including the 2024 and 2025 seasons, or $43.7 million per year over the course of the deal.
Including the fifth-year option, Lawrence was originally set to make $31,341,293 over the next two seasons, according to OverTheCap. Lawrence will also receive a $37.5 million signing bonus when he signs the deal.

Trevor Lawrence's contract includes a no-trade clause
In addition to the money, Lawrence's deal also protects against being traded to another team. For Lawrence to lose his no-trade clause, according to PFT, he would have to hold out, get suspended by the team or commit a forfeitable breach of the contract.
What incentives does Trevor Lawrence's contract include?
According to PFT, the new deal includes $1.5 million in incentives from 2026 through 2030. Lawrence will get $500,000 if he takes at least 60% of the team's snaps and if the Jaguars win the AFC Championship game. He gets $1 million if he takes at least 60% of the team's snaps and the Jaguars win the Super Bowl for a total of $6 million.
As Florio notes, for Lawrence to receive the full incentives, the Jaguars will have to win four straight Super Bowls.

What percentage of the salary cap will Trevor Lawrence take up?
As is the case with the majority of NFL contracts, teams take into account what percentage of the salary cap a given player will take up. Doing so gives teams an understanding of how many resources they can pour into various position groups. That's especially true for the quarterback position.
When Lawrence signs his name on the dotted line, he will be set to take up just 21.5% of this year's salary cap, which is $255.4 million. For reference, when Burrow signed his deal in 2023, he was set to take up 24.4% of the salary cap. According to Spotrac, Lawrence ranks 10th in this category behind Cowboys QB Dak Prescott , who took up 21.9% of the salary cap when he signed his deal in 2021.
What does this mean for the Jaguars moving forward?
The Jaguars have now invested a considerable amount of cap space and cash in the quarterback position with Lawrence's extension. Though it is a positive for the organization overall, it will have consequences.
Whether the consequences are borne out negatively will be determined later down the line, but investing a significant portion of the team's yearly cap-space allotment naturally limits what else the team can do.
For instance, the Jaguars spent $175.3 million in guaranteed money during the 2022 offseason, signing receiver Christian Kirk, tight end Evan Engram , defensive lineman Foley Fatukasi, linebacker Foye Oluokun , guard Brandon Scherff , receiver Zay Jones and cornerback Darious Williams .
That simply can't happen as easily as it did in the past now that Lawrence's deal is set to get on the books. Still, Jacksonville structured the contract favorably. For instance, Lawrence's cap hit doesn't necessarily balloon until the 2029 season when it jumps from $47,000,000 in 2028 to $78,500,000 in 2029.
Still, the Jaguars spent the money because of their confidence in the quarterback, a confidence that has never wavered through the two seasons head coach Doug Pederson has coached him.
If Lawrence does live up to the deal, the Jaguars will be a successful franchise, likely a multi-time division champion and potentially a Super Bowl winner. That's the implication when a quarterback signs a deal this large after his rookie contract.
