Going into this Bills-Broncos game, we knew it had all the makings of an all-time classic, and it delivered.
But in the end, Denver defended home turf, taking down the Bills 33 to 30.
Overtime, and here is how it happened.
It was a laundry list of mistakes by Buffalo.
The Bills were driving in overtime in their first possession of the overtime period after Holding Denver scoreless in their first possession.
Josh Allen hit Brandon Cooks deep into Denver territory, and it looked like he it, but Ja'Quan McMillian made an insane defensive play and came up with the Interception!
Denver ball.
Bills get flagged for two pass interferences on three plays.
And then a Tre'Davious White unsportsmanlike conduct call set Wil Lutz up for an easy 23-yard field goal, sending Denver to the AFC Championship game.
But it wasn't just mistakes in overtime.
Sure, the Bills ran the ball well.
They ran for more yards than any opponent Denver has faced this entire season.
But the Bills had 5 total turnovers on the day, 4 in regulation.
And Denver turned those 4 turnovers into 13 points.
Credit to Denver's defense for that, and also credit to Bo Nix.
Who has been Mr.
Clutch for really a majority of the season, And when Denver was down four in the final moments of the fourth quarter, He hit a beautiful 26-yard touchdown pass to Marvin Mims with 55 seconds left.
Which essentially sent that game to overtime.
Now, the question for Josh Allen remains: Not this year, then when?
Josh Allen's Super Bowl drought continues.
And it felt like this season was the perfect opportunity.
No Patrick Mahomes, no Lamar Jackson, and no Joe Burrow standing in his way.
But yet again, he and the Bills' season ends before they get to the Super Bowl.
Will Josh Allen ever get there?
A fair question to be asking ourselves after Losing to the Broncos tonight.
But for the Broncos, Sean Payton's pursuit of becoming the first-ever NFL coach in history to Win Super Bowls with two different organizations will continue.
