Jaxson Dart has impressive physical traits, but can the new coaching staff harness them?

Yahoo Sports NFL analyst Nate Tice and fantasy analyst Matt Harmon dive into Jaxson Dart's 1st year performance and wonder if the rebuilt receiver core can help Dart take the next step.

Video Transcript

I, I would say first, my first and foremost takeaway watching, re-watching Jaxson Dart, and this was my takeaway watching him in college and watching him during his rookie season, dude's a hell of an athlete.

Dude is strong.

Mm-hmm.

Dude can run.

He's got legit, legit vision.

Like, he sets up blocks, and he's willing to chuck some stuff and create some stuff, and that can get him in trouble, which I will get into in a little bit as well.

But this guy is a real good athlete, and I actually have a comparison for him after, after you go that I'm excited to maybe throw out here.

Ooh, okay.

but no, real good fun- a real good runner of the football.

Interested to see him in this next offense under, under Greg Roman and, Matt Nagy, which I, I think they're gonna run the football a lot.

They're already hinting at it, and I think Dart will be a part of that as well.

But when you're watching the Giants, when you're watching Dart, what were your takeaways on him, Matt, and his kind of hell-or-high-water play style?

Yeah, I mean, you, you said it perfectly.

Hell of an athlete.

yeah, just definitely I think more, more of a physical specimen than he probably gets credit for.

so I- Yep and I think that will always be kind of a part of his game.

And I think, of course, the big thing is just can, can we keep him healthy doing that?

That's certainly gonna- Mm-hmm I think be And I just think this will be a more mature coaching staff.

I just-- Oh, God, I, I did not enjoy watching the Giants last year, for a variety of different reasons, the structure of the offense.

God, I just actually charted Malik Nabers for Reception Perception.

Those first few games with Russell Wilson were just abhorrent.

like from a design standpoint, what they were doing was terrible.

even when they carved up the Cowboys, that was like a, "Can I take away anyf- anything from this?"

'Cause that Cowboys defense was one of the worst- Yeah watches that we've seen two games.

There was a lot of stuff.

It was, it was-- Yeah, brutal.

Like, Malik Nabers run down the football field and see what happens.

Yeah.

so I, I do think getting a fresh start here is good from, for, for Jaxson Dart.

Like, I don't think they could do what they were doing last year and, and expect him to progress and continue.

Also, by the time he was playing a lot, you know, the, the guys around him weren't very good.

Uh- Mm-hmm, mm-hmm Wan'Dale Robinson's a nice player, but he should not be your, he should not be your 140 target player.

He should be an auxiliary guy in your passing game.

So I think on paper, obviously, the question with Dart this year is, you know, what do they have around him?

They have a, I agree, an offensive line that's gonna be imposing.

I think the offensive line was better than kinda they got credit for- Mm-hmm last year in both the run and pass phase.

They should be a good run game.

They've got a lot of big, like, powerful, you know, tight ends.

Obviously, Malachi Fields is a nice a- add here as well.

I'm not a-- Just based on like the, the tenor, the discussion around Nabers and the fact that they added three receivers yesterday, Braxston Berrios, Judas Schuster, and Odell Beckham Jr., I'm just not expecting like Malik Nabers to be at the peak of his power until 2027.
