The other really interesting piece of this is who Notre Dame picked up too, To fillMm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

...

The schedule.

And if you thought they were ducking BYU in the Bowl game, well, th- they're fine playing BYU, they just were still really mad and throwing a Hissy fit after Macmissing the college football playoff.

And also, we'll talk about the sprinkles on the helmets later, probably.

But they didn't want to put sprinkles on their helmets.

I think that's the real reason they're not in the Pop-Tarts bowl.

But they are playing BYU, which Ross, you tell me.

I'm guessing BYU has some empathy for Notre Dame because BYU scheduled as independent for years and yearsYeah.

... Before joining the Big 12.

Yeah, for sure.

Yeah, you can remember when, before they joined, Uh, they were kind of in a similar position.

When all that kind of came out with Pete.

Bevacqua criticizes the Notre Dame AD, criticizing the selection committee, And then reminding everybody about Notre Dame's guarantee in the CFP starting next year, In a 12-team CFP, if they're ranked in the top 12, they get in automatically.

Um, that has certainly riled up some people across college sports.

And I think there're certain leagues, USC probably is in one.

Who, um, their schools?

Mm-hmm.

... Are starting to shy away, let's say, from scheduling Notre Dame.

Did Tony Petitti forget that he agreed to that?

Oh, I don't think so.

There are a lot of athletic directors in a lot of different conferences that, that either did not know, or weren't ever told, or just forgot, Plain forgot.

As one of them said to me recently, This is a competitive imbalance, so we're just not gonna play them."

Mm-hmm.

You know, we're not, we're not gonna schedule them."

And the Big 12, To its credit, it was kinda like, "Go for it, BYU."

Like, It's good for us, right?

It's good for our TV.

Uh, viewership, attendance, brand, and all that stuff."

So they were like, "Let's do it."

One of the things with BYU's schedule this year that, That hurt them was, like, a really good non-quality out-of-conference.

If these two programs had played this game, maybe this year.

Um, maybe both of them wouldn't be left out of the playoff.

So if you were to swapyeah.

... Um...

I, I don't...

I can't remember any of the Notre Dame games.

I'm just thinking.

There was...

There's so much dead weight on there.

But you can't swap the ACC, 'cause that would have been part of an agreement.

So... Well, if you s- If you swapped the USC game- It Would be like, uh... ...

Which is the most logical one here yeah.

...

It wouldn't have changed anything.

Right?

Well, that's true.

They would, they would have, they would have made BYU nine and threeArkansas.

Yeah.

... Just like they made USC nine and three, yeah.

Arkansas, maybe.

Maybe.

Arkansas would have been a... Yeah.

Arkansas would have been a good one, yeah.

You swap BYU for Arkansasyeah.

Boise.

... ThenYeah.

Yep.

Yeah.

So ththose are the ones I was thinking.

Of.

The Purdue series is also long, like, uh, As, as part of a longer deal.

Can we acknowledge it sucks, even though Yeah.

Do we understand the reasons why it happened?

Definitely.

Yeah, yeah.

It definitely stinks.
