The PWHL has never had a game broadcasted on television before.
Shocking, right?
Ally Financial and Scripps Sports announced that they are partnering with the PWHL to broadcast the league's first game on national television in the US.
This will happen during the PWHL Takeover Tour, an initiative where regular season games will be played at a neutral site to test potential expansion markets, which there seems to be a demand for with the PWHL growing so fast.
On Saturday, March 28th, the New York Sirens and the Montreal Victoire will be the first ever nationally broadcasted matchup.
The game will be shown live on ION, also the home of the WNBA and NWSL, at 1:00 PM from Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, and expected to be accessible to more than 126 million households.
This comes right after Team USA won gold in Italy.
Out of those 23 players, 16 were PWHL athletes.
On February 28th, the Seattle Torrent set a record for the largest attendance ever for a women's hockey game, with 17,335 fans.
Only in its third season, the PWHL is approaching 2 million fans and a 20% year-over-year increase in average attendance.
I'm not great at math, but I know that means it's skyrocketing and only up from here for the growth of the league and sport.
