Video Transcript

Dude, we got a big show planned for you guys, all right?

We're gonna be predicting the seeds for 88 kilograms and minus 55 kilograms.

But before we get into that, I wanted to tell you that the FloGrappling show is brought to you by Marek Health, helping athletes optimize hormones, improve recovery, and maximize performance through precision lab testing and expert medical oversight.

Use code FLO, that's F-L-O, now for 10% off both Marek Diagnostics and Marek Health at marekhealth.com/flo grappling.

Go get right so you guys can get on the mats, train longer, train harder.

Act like, act like you're a little ADCC athlete, you know?

Just, like, pretend you're a little ADCC athlete.

Get on Marek.

Go start just smashing people in the gym, and just be like, "I'm the man, dude."

Simple as that, thanks to marekhealth.com/flo grappling.

Now let's jump into the episode.

What's up, everybody?

Welcome back to the FloGrappling show, AKA the worst show on the internet.

As always, I'm Trey Robinson.

We got big Uncle Reid right there, and old Joe Gilpin right there.

Dude, we were jamming out to- We were getting in I Want A Ferrari by Riff Raff right before.

We gotta talk to Riff Raff.

I think Riff Raff follows- Getting hyped up FloGrappling.

We gotta get that as the, the intro song for this show.

That would really take us over the edge, and just get us, you know, just real lit every episode, in my opinion.

It truly is just an all-time classic.

For sure.

I Want A Ferrari by Riff Raff.

It's a, it's a jam.

It's, it's somewhat of the, like the anthem of jujitsu at this point, you know?

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

If you asked me to name one song I most closely associate with jujitsu, I Want A Ferrari by Riff Raff.

Yeah.

What's that, what's that one song back in the day, uh- Halak Grace, he had some, had some, some bops back in the day.

Okay.

Some jujitsu bops.

Okay.

There's a, there's like- Some jujitsu raps there.

Yeah.

They're not I Want A Ferrari by Riff Raff, though?

Yeah, no, definitely not.

I'll take this back.

Definitely not.

There was one that's like, like, it was like OG viral in the jujitsu world, that some dude made, like, a jujitsu rap song.

Like, like, Choking OG or something like that?

Yeah, that's, that, that's, that's Halak Grace.

Oh, really?

Yeah, yeah.

It's, Something OG or Yeah, yeah.

Yeah.

With, what's the guy?

K- Kevin, he's a UFC fighter- Costner?

FI- UFC fighter.

Holland?

Kevin the Jet Night?

Kevin No, I almost said Kevin Crane, but not Kevin Crane.

Anyway, Kevin Remember the Name Crane?

No, no, not him.

Oh.

But anyway, yeah.

Hey, Kevin Crane, if you're listening, dude, drop a jujitsu rap album.

It's, feels like you could do that.

True.

Maybe go by, like, White Chocolate or something.

I'd be, I'd be into that.

We should one day draft Jujitsu Rap Collective.

You gotta take people from bottom to top.

Who are you drafting?

Who, Gi- Who would you like, what- Gi and a Gi.

Gi and a Gi.

Gi and a Gi.

Yeah, that's what it is.

That's just, I can't believe we couldn't remember it.

Yeah, Gi and a Gi.

That's on, that's on us.

But Gi and a Gi.

Classic.

It's ADCC season.

We're thinking about no-gi.

Yeah.

Our bad.

Yeah, yeah, sorry.

D- all right, so that was jujitsu rap talk to start the show.

A new segment we're gonna be kicking things off with.

But on today's episode, we're gonna, we're gonna dive into, more seeding predictions, all right?

Today, we're gonna cover 88 kilograms, and then I think probably the under 55 kilogram divisions.

I was recently out in San Diego.

We were filming at Victory and, PJ Barch's gym.

They're doing, like, camps out there.

And Marlon Tajic said it is time for us to do the 88 kilogram division seeding predictions.

He ha- he, you know, he had a lot to say.

He had a lot to tell me about where he should be seeded and all that.

I'm prepared to kick off the seeding with Marlon Tajic at number Do you guys wanna guess?

One?

Eight.

16, dude.

Okay.

You come at the boss and tell me what to do?

I'm putting you last on the list, Marlon.

How does that feel?

For the most handsome guy in jujitsu, Marlon Tajic, on the record, going number 16.

Mattia's got something to say about that, but.

Yeah.

No, I'm just kidding.

Ma- Marlon told me- We gotta do, we gotta do a hunk draft while we're at it, by the way.

Rap collective, hunk draft.

Slack, be writing these down.

Yeah.

Be writing down what, what drafts we got coming up.

No, I'm just playing, though.

Marlon, Marlon told me I'm like a toxic girlfriend.

He said I'll compliment him sometimes, and then say really mean stuff sometimes.

He said I, like, kinda, like, keep him, you know, keep him on the hook with, like, nice things, like calling him the most handsome guy in jujitsu.

And then I also say mean things, so that was my mean thing.

But I was just kidding.

I don't wanna rank him 16.

Yeah.

We'll see how it- Marlon's a badass goes.

Marlon's a beast.

Yeah.

But I don't know.

You guys wanna just jump into these, seeding predictions, and kinda- Yeah see what we can pick up?

So la- last week, we did 77 kilograms.

Did, did a bracket kinda breakdown, and, and, and seeding predictions and stuff like that.

So if you haven't checked that out, go check that out from last week, 77 kilograms.

Gonna be a killer division, crazy one.

Yeah.

So, f- f- decide maybe today we do 88 kilograms, right?

That's right.

Less than a month away, September 12th through 13th on FloGrappling exclusively.

It's gonna be an awesome tournament.

Yeah, just even getting, like, these kinda looks at, like, what the brackets might look like.

It's just getting me so excited for it.

Yeah.

Yeah, 'cause when Marlon was talking about it, he w- he was, like, saying, like, "Oh, you better rank me here or there," you know?

And I was like, "Hey, brother, it's not my opinion on who the 1 through 16 seeds are.

It's my opinion of the guy's who makes the bracket's opinions on how they're going to make the bracket."

Yeah, that, that's much more of a- I hold You guys can't hold me accountable for nothing when it comes to these brackets.

This is my opinion of someone else's opinion.

So if anything, the ADCC organizers should come at me and be like, "Why do you think that way of me?

Why do you think I would rank them that way?"

So I just wanna put that out there.

I hold no responsibility for anything you're about to see or hear.

But, um- 88, 88 kilograms, a very interesting division.

It ha- Yeah has always been.

Of course, maybe we'll start in 2017, when a lot of people started paying attention to the 80- 88 kilogram division.

We had Gordon Ryan came out.

That was the group of death.

Yeah, yeah, a- absolutely.

You had tons of good guys in there.

Goiti Yamauchi, Homolo Behal, Craig Jones- Leandro Leandro Lo Shanji Yeah, so, so- Enan that was really the, the, the moment that I think, you know, Gordon kind of burst onto the scene and everything.

He won 88 kilograms there.

He moved, to a different division in 2019.

We had Matheus Deniz versus Craig Jones in the, the final in 2019.

Matheus Deniz got his, ADCC title under his belt and, you know, then we had the run of Giancarlo Bedoni.

Giancarlo came in 2022, 2024, and really solidified his name as one of the best grapplers and one of the best champions in 88 kilograms history, right?

One of the only two people, I think, to have won that division multiple- Paolo Ribeiro multiple times.

And the only guy to win it back to back.

So, obviously incredible run from Giancarlo Bedoni.

Giancarlo not going to be at this ADCC, I believe.

Maybe you guys know more.

Dealing with some injuries and stuff like that, dealing, opening a gym.

You know, i- in, in starting to get into that next chapter i- in his life maybe, and so he's decided to, to, forgo this ADCC, which really opens this division wide open.

We still do have past champions in this division, but, it really opens this, this, this division wide open.

There's a lot of newcomers, a lot of guys.

I think this one will be a tough one for us to seed, altogether, so it should be an interesting division.

100%.

Yeah, when it comes to Giancarlo, I, I just think it's like, it's such a testament to, like, how hard it is to be able to just be available and be healthy and be peaked at the right time multiple ADCCs in a row.

It's why you see somebody like Wagner who's medaled at the last four, like how remarkable that is, is like, man, you never, like, broke your foot a month out- or just, like- Got sick on, on the flight over got sick or just, like, the, the, your life was not lined up in a way in which that could happen because of injuries and just everything that happens in life.

So it just, it just really speaks to, like, when you see extended success in something like ADCC, how impressive that really has to be.

All right.

So I guess just to start this off, we have this list.

Down here, we have everyone who's currently in the divisions for the 88 kilogra- or in the division for 88 kilograms.

And to start, you know, I mean, we talked about this on the last episode.

I guess maybe we should recap it again in case someone's just watching this one, but, there's, like, certain aspects of ADCC seeding that come into play.

You know, a lot of times it has to do with, like, past performances at the ADCC World Championship.

You know, the trials you win has an effect.

Also, teammates have to meet kinda early on, so there's dynamics like that where, that all kinda play into the seed.

So it's not just a straight up number one's the best guy, 16 is the worst guy.

It's like a little bit of, like, a puzzle you have to solve throughout it.

Do you guys have anyone for the one seed right away?

W- and I just wanna say real quick, too, just to, in case people didn't watch last, last week's episode as well, that this is not the official- Yeah bracket for ADCC.

This is just the boys trying to put together what we think could plausibly be a, an ADCC bracket.

But of course, ADCC puts that together.

We don't have input into that, so hopefully you guys can just come along with us and, and see what we think are, are gonna be the best decisions here.

And, you know, we're doing this on, what, what is today?

August 15th?

17th.

17th.

And so things can change from now until ADCC Worlds happens.

People can pull out.

People could be added in.

Things, things could happen.

So, so things could look different here in the next k- few weeks, but right now, this is what we have to say.

Yeah.

This is what we think.

So drop a comment, play along.

Play along at home, you know?

Get your, get your, protractors and your pencils out and draw up a bracket of your own as we go in the comments section.

But number one seed, are there any clear number ones that you guys think right off the rip that jump out at you?

I don't think there's a clear number one, and I think that somebody we're gonna have to really figure out what we wanna do in this division is Matheus Deniz, because he's the only guy who's won this division before in 2019.

He didn't medal when he came back in 2022.

He wasn't at 2024.

But he's a gold medalist.

He's a champion, so he's gonna have to get s- you know, a level of respect that, you know, we're gonna have to figure out what that means compared to some other guys.

If you ask me who I would put as the one seed, probably J-Rod.

Returning silver medalist from last time, kinda like how we did with Wagner at 77.

I think for me, the one and the two here are gonna be the returning medalist from last time, and that's J-Rod and that's Filipe Costa, top and bottom.

That's my thinking.

Yeah, I agree.

I think, you know, I, I, I think it is tough having Matheus Deniz in there being a past champion, but just since we haven't seen a whole lot of Matheus Deniz recently, really at all, I can't remember- Yeah the last time he, he had a match, to, to be honest.

But so it's great to, to see Matheus kind of c- come out for, for the big show and, and try to prove it against a lot of these young up-and-comer type dudes, you know, a place that he's been in before.

But I think that you have to kind of give the one seed to J-Rod because he is the returning silver medalist.

He's been more active.

He just kind of has more It, it's a, a recency bias, I guess, but that's, that's what I would say.

Yeah, k- I guess with Giancarlo being out, you know, that does leave J-Rod as the, the highest performing guy from the m- the most recent ADCC.

I, I, I'm down to go J-Rod one.

You guys wanna do that?

Yeah, I think J-Rodriguez gets the one seed.

I'm, I do th- I do think Matheus Deniz is gonna be a little, you know, is gonna make this complicated 'cause it's like how, how will ADCC view him because of being away?

'Cause I, I almost think, Joe, that we should put Matheus Deniz at the two now then.

I could see that.

To be honest.

I feel like that might be our role.

I would add Matheus to three.

Yeah.

Which is ultimately, like, pretty similar, right?

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Yeah, I think the two and the three, yeah, fits Matheus Deniz and then Filipe Costa at the three.

I think that makes a lot of sense, but those are the only guys who have medaled before at ADCC Worlds.

There have been other place winners.

Chris Wojcik and John Blanc have won places at the ADCC Worlds before, but I think the three medalists Just judging off ADCC history, are most likely to get the top three seeds.

Yeah, yeah.

So do I get to be the tiebreaker then for the- Yeah for the two?

Sure.

Ooh.

I've always wanted to be in this situation, you know?

I- Mateus Diniz, Mateus Diniz lost to Owen Flanagan, um- In 2022?

In 2022.

Ca- No, he lost to Giancarlo.

Yeah, Owen did.

Sorry, sorry, sorry.

Yeah, yeah.

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, Mateus.

That's right.

I'm getting them mixed up.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Sorry.

Giancarlo just wreaking havoc on everybody, you know?

Giancarlo.

It was that crazy second round match.

That's right.

Yeah, yeah, Giancarlo.

Yeah, and Mateus was, like, mad about a point that went up or, or whatever, and then ended up giving up his back I think.

They had like a reset.

Yeah, yeah, a reset.

A reset is what it was.

Yeah, yeah.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Yeah, that's right.

Yeah, yeah, sorry, I got them mixed up there.

That's right.

Mateus Diniz lost to Giancarlo Bedoni there in 2022, the eventual champion, so you know, tough to, tough to, to knock him too much there.

Yeah.

I, I do just think, though, that because he's a returning champion, that they're gonna give him, you know, a solid seed.

So I'm a, I'm a do tiebreaker Mateus Diniz at the two.

And then Joe, you were advocating- I think Filipe Costa Filipe Costa, returning bronze medalist, right?

Only other guy in this division who has medaled at- Mm-hmm the ADCC World Championships.

Had a tough round a tough route last time.

Couch first round, Elder second round.

Bronze medal match against Kris Wojcik, who's having a, such a great tournament, so I think that, And, and he just has so much great success everywhere, right?

Filipe is, is a guy who lives up to that, right?

It's not like that was an outlier performance.

So I think that for me, Filipe Costa deserves that three seed.

Yeah, one of the most active guys, I feel like- Very active i- in, in the roster here.

Filipe Costa putting on the gi, fighting at IBJJF Worlds, fighting at tons of these, opens and, and, and all, all types of things.

I feel like whose number ones and stuff.

So I feel like, Filipe might be one of the guys who, who I see take, like, the biggest leap, I feel like, from 2024 to till, till now.

Dude, this is gonna be a hard bracket to seed.

It's really, really hard.

That's what I'm saying.

The more, like- I kind- already getting into it, I'm like, "Bro, this is actually brutal."

I c- I kinda did, like, a fake one on my own to, like, think about it.

Yeah.

I actually did this, like, two months ago just to, 'cause it's all I think about.

And like, yeah, it's After those first three, who you can just kind of like, okay, here are the medalists, figure that out, no problem, now there's, like, 12 guys, I feel like, who- Yeah like, are all kinda pretty close, to each other.

What do, what do you think, Reid?

Do you wanna Are you down with Filipe Costa three?

Yeah, I think, I think that's, that's the obvious answer, I think.

All right, let's go Filipe Costa three.

Another returning medalist.

And then do we put Kris Wojcik now in the four?

Ooh.

We got Kris Wojcik.

John Blenk is around, who's placed at the world championships before.

Probably not above Kris, if I had to guess.

Pedro Marino I feel like is a guy who's probably gonna get some love in this seeding.

So- Joseph Chen I feel like is gonna get some love.

Joseph Chen.

Paolo Zaworski's gonna get some love.

Ooh, Polish bias in Poland.

Not saying there is one, but there could be.

If there was ever going to be a pro-Polish bias- Yeah.

In the bracketing.

This is the tourney.

It's now.

Yeah.

If you don't think when they seed 99 they're like, "Okay, Kynan top, Luke bottom.

Where we putting Adam?"

Yeah.

Like, that's for sure how it's- So we don't have to worry about Jay and Kris same team anymore, right?

No.

They're probably registered as different teams now, that Kris lives in San Diego.

That's how I'm approaching it.

Yeah.

I ki- I kinda lean Kris at the four just 'cause of it being the more recent, medalist over John Blenk.

I agree.

What do you think, Reid?

Yep, yep.

I think that's fair.

Okay.

Kris Wojcik four seed.

And now here for the five seed.

And remember, we also kinda wanna avoid s- first and second round rematches if we can.

I don't think we're running into anything like that yet, but there's our top four.

Jay Rod, Mateus, Filipe, Kris.

Should we, should we jump around to, like, a lower seeding?

Like, do you guys have any- Is there a- guys we're gonna get is there a clear 16th seed?

Yeah.

Is there a clear final seed?

Scroll back down, try.

Probably 16 seed you're looking, like, I hate to say it, but Fares is gonna be in the mix for that, especially because- The late invite he's late invite.

Franco Diaz is gonna be on that list unfortunately.

Bob Frias is probably gonna be on that list unfortunately of, of guys who are gonna be catching some lower seeds.

I feel like wouldn't, like Gabriel Braga should be on the lower end.

He got invited somewhat early, but he also, like, didn't win trials.

Like lost- Yeah lost the f- first- Has a quarterfinal and a, and a semifinal I think.

Yeah.

So he's, he's kind of an interesting case because Gabriel is gonna have to be in the same quarter as Pedro Marino.

They're both Gracie Barra.

Mm-hmm.

So I feel like, you know, they're not gonna give him the 16, 'cause that leads to a rematch between him and Jay Rod, which they're not gonna do.

They fought at the 2022 ADCC Worlds.

But yeah, he could be eligible for, like, the 15 or the 14 or 13.

Or I guess, should we go, should we just put John Blenk up there as returning medalist?

Do you guys think he'll end up high, like top five or six or?

I think that's fair.

I think the five seed could also be Marino.

I, I keep coming back to him, but yeah, I feel like John Blenk as a placer is probably the- Yeah safe pick there.

The five seed?

Yeah, we can keep moving.

Yeah.

All right, let's go John Blenk at the five.

And there's no other 10th Planet guys that we have to worry about.

There's not.

There's not.

Are there any, like, Excel or Google Sheets people in the audience, you think?

Or you're just like, "Pfft, these guys don't know how to work."

What are these guys doing?

These guys are not freaks in the sheets, dude.

They do not understand how to get down with Excel.

I feel like I'm leaning Joseph Chen for the six.

I- Just to throw that out there.

I do kinda also think that just, like, general, like, who this grappler is, the hype he has, how good he really is, is gonna bode well for Joseph Chen, you know?

Pretty dominant at trials as well.

Like, I do think I think Joseph Chen will be viewed in a positive light by the people who make the bracket.

So the only person that I would think about putting above Joseph Chen right here- Really?

There, there's somebody else, I guess, that needs, considered, 'cause I think Mourinho could be in here, is Pavel.

Yeah.

And I feel like they might If the, if they're putting Mateus as the two, I feel like they might put Pavel as the seven, just because I feel like there, there might be, like They might view that as, as a, a, a matchup that, Mateus hasn't really dealt with that many leg lockers.

Did beat Craig Jones, obviously, so maybe I'm talking out of my ass.

But I just feel like they might like that matchup a little bit more than, like, Felipe Costa.

You know what I mean?

Yeah.

That, I mean, a seven seed also does feel like a reasonable seeding for Pavel as well.

Agreed.

So what do you think of that?

Yeah.

Joseph six, Pavel seven?

I think that, yeah, that sounds good to me.

Okay.

I feel like because of, because of Pedro's last ADCC performance there, I feel like- He might get bumped down?

Yeah.

Well But again, I don't wanna put him at the eight or the nine, because that would set up that rematch with J-Rod, and they, like, really try to avoid rematches.

Mm-hmm.

They faced off first round in 2022, minus 88.

Gotcha.

So what do we, what do we got here?

We got Marlon Tajik, trials winner.

Franco Dias, trials winner.

Batista, invite.

Nathan Haddad, trials winner.

Batista won trials.

Oh, he did?

Yeah, he won the second trials.

Yeah.

Okay, gotcha, gotcha.

Trials winner, trials winner, trials winner, invite, invite, invite, invite?

Yep.

So, all right.

So we got some So the top four are trials winners, top, bottom four are, are invites.

Top five.

Top five, sorry.

Yeah.

All right.

So I guess, who out of the trials winners do you think will be viewed most favorably during the seeding?

Like, so obviously, traditionally, you know, North American trials, Brazil trials considered some of the best.

European trials and Asian trials lower end.

But I kinda feel like this year it flipped a little, and, like, European trials seem to be one of the tougher trials as, as well as North American trials.

Brazil did seem a little lighter.

Um- Brazil was light.

It, it, at some of these.

So I don't know if they're gonna stand on the historical legs they have as being, like, a divi- a trials winner that gets ranked higher, or if they're gonna, like, kinda look at how w- tough this year's, specifically, trials were.

Also, not saying there is one, but there could be European bias.

Yeah, I was about to say, man.

The, the guy I feel like I would take off this list next with everything considered that we've talked about is Santori.

I feel like- Yeah, true you know, had a really close match with Pavel, so Pavel's gonna get seeded above him.

But I think for that eight, nine, I think Santori's, like, right around that.

But also, how, how could you Like, shouldn't Marlon be over Santori?

Why would Marlon be over Santori?

Didn't he beat him at trials?

No, they- At the first trials?

Or no.

Oh, no, no, no.

He lost to Pavel in the finals, the first one.

Didn't do the second one.

Yeah, you're right.

I think he had a staph infection or something.

Yeah, he did.

So yeah, I feel like Santori o- over Marlon or Ferris is, is probably still a, a, a good shout.

What do you think, Reed?

Any thoughts?

This is tough.

Yeah.

I think- Why do we put ourselves in these situations?

There's gonna be a, there's gonna be a lot of ways that this bracket could go.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

No, I think Santori, I think Santori and Pedro are kind of next, but we are gonna kinda have to figure out what we do with Pedro, 'cause he'll have to fight, Bob Frias first round, and there's no first round matchups left there if we don't- I think they- we're trying to avoid eight, nine they're probably just gonna plug in Pedro into one of these, like, s- spots like the 12 or something against John Blank, I feel like might end up being where Pedro goes.

But doesn't he have, doesn't he have to fight his teammate?

Is it Wait.

Well, then you put Gabriel Bo- Brogi at the 13 or something, right?

Got it.

Got it.

So they can both still be in the same quarters.

Got it, yeah.

I always, I, I think, I was thinking that, we were talking about 99 earlier, and you're talking about three people being in the, in the, division, so yeah.

That's, that's right.

I messed that up.

Um- So should we go Pedro at 12 against John Blank?

I like that.

I think it makes sense.

All right.

Pedro, you get the 12 seed in this rhetorical seeding prediction.

Yeah.

Don't think he's the 12th best guy here.

It's just kind of the way that these things work out.

And also lost first round last time.

That's probably gonna hurt him.

Yeah.

So eight and nine will be, like, Santori versus Gustavo Batista, maybe?

Potentially.

Yeah, I could see that.

You could, you take Gabriel Brogi off the list and put him against, whoever the, got the four, Chris Wojcik.

Right here, so they meet in the quarters.

Yep.

This is also assuming that teammates are gonna meet in the quarters.

Like, they have changed it recently to meet in the semis, right?

But We kinda think they're gonna move that back.

Yeah.

We don't know for sure.

We're predicting that they're gonna move it back, but we don't actually know.

Yeah.

I think the, the eight, nine could end up being, like, Santori, Nathan, I think is a really strong eight, nine.

Nathan won the, the, you know, the toughest trials.

I think if it was somebody like Ryan Aitken, you would look at him at that eight, nine.

True.

And Nathan beat him.

Yeah.

True.

So I think that- That's a good point that's kinda where I would shade looking at this list.

Santori versus, um- Nathan?

Nathan.

Nathan.

Nathan, J-Rod, by the way.

Dogfight.

That, that would be a crazy match.

True.

All right, let's go Nathan eight, Santori nine.

No, let's go Santori eight, Nathan nine.

Well, I'm just doing- I'm just, yeah, just, I'm giving the trials winner a slight, a slight advantage.

All right.

Feels like Gustavo's gotta be kind of coming up.

I, I do, I think we're sleeping on Marlon Tajik a little bit- You think so?

To be honest.

I think, I think so.

I think, I think Marlon Tajic is gonna be seeded pretty high, actually.

You- Like, I, I could see him getting a sneaky, like, six or something, like instead of Joseph Chen.

Like, I could see them viewing him as, like, one of the best trials winners.

But- Well, under ADCC, this is Joseph's debut.

The only thing he's done under ADCC is he won one European trials, and has medaled at a couple of Asian trials as well.

Um- He won the Asian trials, right?

Did he win the Asian trials?

Mm-hmm.

Yeah, this most recent one.

That's how he got his ticket.

Oh, yeah, yeah.

Yeah.

At least said that, right?

Yeah, my bad.

Yeah.

You said European, but he's won a European- No, he's won two trials then.

And then do it- He won the European and then, yeah.

You're right.

Gotcha.

Gotcha.

And, then won Asian.

So, but I, I, that's just like, I'm just kinda, like, playing- The vibes a little.

That I just I don't know.

I feel like there's this vibe that Marlon might get a decently high seed.

It's not, you know- To Marlon versus Pavel?

Two Europeans?

Both European Trials champs.

But that's rematch, right?

Or- Is he?

No, no, no.

No, it's not.

San- Santeri took out, Marlon, and then Marlon and Or Santeri and Pavel fought in the finals.

Ooh, you think they're gonna go European on European crime first round?

I don't know.

Marlon versus Joseph.

I could also see them- Marlon versus Joseph's kinda sick.

That is a super sick match.

Damn, that's a sick match.

Who else we got on the, on the tap?

I just think Gustavo's certainly the most accomplished, kind of far and- That's true far and away.

He is in the gi, but also he lost to Franco Dias.

Right?

At the first South American Trials.

People are sleeping on Franco Dias.

Okay.

So maybe Franco Dias needs to get that, that look.

We might be blowing this one, boys.

Are we blowing this one?

I like Franco Dias at 10 and Marlon at 11 then.

I think Mar- Do you- I think Marlon goes over Franco.

Think so?

Well, let's- That's my guess let's go, let's place Gustavo Batista.

But I, I, I just was moving away.

Just I, I just didn't think that they would do two Europeans first round.

Yeah.

So I was kind of moving away from that.

Where, where do we see Gustavo Batista fit again because, like, yeah, I guess you are right, Reid, just, like, general grappler prestige, like, these seeds are not seeds that Gustavo Batista seems to fit well at this point, you know?

Like- I think it's, I think it's ending up looking like Ferris and Gabriel Roge will get 15 and 16, and then it's, like, those other three, Gustavo, Roge- Gabriel Roge we already have at 13.

Oh, sorry.

Or did you- Scroll down again.

So I guess Okay.

So yeah, we just have Trials winners and then Ferris.

Should we just put Ferris at the 16, I guess?

Last invite in.

I think it makes sense- Yeah looking at these four names.

Okay.

Although, man, him and Matheus Doniz first round is kinda money.

I would like that match as well.

That would be cool.

Who?

Ferris versus- Ferris versus- But Fer- Ferris versus J-Rod- Oh is pretty sick also, I feel like.

It is, but I feel like- Like, Ferris- Ferris could knock off Matheus Doniz, and that would be really cool.

Yeah.

I'm kinda fan boying out a little bit right now.

So 14, 10, 11, 15.

Yeah, probably Bob Frias at the 15 then.

Yeah.

All right.

And then I feel like the, these three, we're just gonna have to kinda- Man, shake them up in a bag and- Yeah, shake them up a little bit.

Who do, who do- Yeah, what- who do we wanna give Pavel?

That's probably what they're gonna Right?

The, you know, w- Mm-hmm in, in Poland, these guys are gonna sit back and think, "Who do we wanna give to Pawel Jaworski?"

That might be Gustavo Batista.

Yeah, k- Batista's kinda, like, my first thought.

Yeah.

Let's do that.

Let's plug that in.

Okay.

Cool with that, Reid?

Mm-hmm.

And then I said Marlon versus Joseph Chen, and then- That's sick for me.

Yeah.

Then it would be Franco Dias versus Felipe Costa?

Yeah.

I think all that makes sense.

And yeah, like you guys can probably hear, there's a lot of different ways that this bracket could shake out.

There are so many quality guys at 88.

None of them, aside from Matheus Doniz, have ever won this bracket.

This is gonna get all shaken up really quickly.

It's gonna be so much parity from round one on.

This is one of the brackets to watch of the entire tournament.

Obviously, every bracket is incredible, but I think 88 has this, little bit of a different quality to it.

It does also always feel like there's, like, a kinda, like, young bucks throwing down in the first round aspect of these brackets, you know?

Like, it always seems like we get one of those, so that's why I kinda do think Joseph Chen, Marlon could kinda hit, you know?

Them just that'd be like That's like Kolobate, Fabricio, Andre hitting first round 2022.

Yep.

Like, one of those types of matchups, like two, two young dudes who, like, could go on runs.

Achilles, J-Rod.

Yeah, but they're gonna have to, like, kinda hit first round.

Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.

So I don't know.

What do you guys think of this bracket overall as we see the whole thing kinda laid out there?

Man, incredible bracket.

You know, can J-Rod do it again?

Still not the biggest 88 kilogram guy, so I feel like a guy like Santeri, who's, like, big and strong and just n- knows how to shut things down super well, might end up being an issue.

You know, coming out of that bottom quarter, I feel really good about Pawel Jaworski going on a run here in Poland, in Krakow.

Joseph Chen, Felipe Costa, second round is an unbelievable match.

That could be the final, you know what I mean?

Tha- those might be the two best guys in the bracket.

And they're meeting second round.

So, so many awesome guys.

Chris Wojcik, John Blank, that's a sick leg lock battle.

Those are two incredible submission artists.

Mm-hmm.

I think, yeah, even John Blank versus Pedro Marino- Yep is a really interesting first round match up.

Obviously, Pedro's kind of c- coming off of his first round match up loss there via leg lock.

John very well known for his leg locks as well, so we'll see if Pedro's kind of, you know, made good on, on that hole in his game.

Pedro also possesses a power to, like, shut down anyone's game whenever he, like, really, like, has a- an expectation of what they're gonna do or, you know, like, knows them well or just really wants to win, to be honest.

Like, he's, like, the longest reigning WNO champion for a reason.

It's not 'cause he's gone out there and just submitted dudes every time.

It's 'cause he has just, like, completely shut down their games and just, like, gotten the win, and I mean, one of those The title Where he won the WNO title, I know slightly different rules, everything, was against Craig Jones, like, one of the best leg lockers on earth.

Yeah.

So it's kinda like, I do think he possesses the power to, like, defeat a leg lock.

Absolutely.

Absolutely.

You know?

So it's not like it's just like, oh man, he got leg locked by Ryan Aiken, like John Blank would crush him.

It's like, I don't know, man.

He could go out there and, like, completely shut down all of John Blank's- Absolutely attacks, and just kinda, like, dominate the match, win a decision, and then move on.

He had a sick leg lock win of his own over Gustavo Batista at the IBJJF No Gi Grand Prix.

True.

That was like a 60-second match.

Dropped back on that heel hook, got that thing quick, so that says to me that probably is something that he's expanding into his game and adding into his game, and, can't learn the offense without the defense, can't learn the defense without the offense.

So yeah, I think that, you know, Pedro- Marino's had a crazy year up and down, with a lot of stuff going on.

If he can go on a run here, I think that would be an, an incredible, thing to, to watch.

Dude, I, I also just think 88 has, like And maybe, may- I don't know.

I guess maybe we could discuss this if you guys have different thoughts.

Like, I think 88 has, like, the craziest discrepancies when it comes, or, like, variance when it comes to, uh- Styles?

Man, just Dude, just dropped two sick ass words on you guys like that?

What am I, a vocab guy?

But, like, the craziest variance for, like, body type in this division.

You have dudes like, like J-Rod, big enough guy, but not some hulking figure when you see him who's just like- Not cutting a lot of weight look at this guy.

But, like, Ferris- is pretty huge.

Santori is a hulking guy.

Yeah.

Like, it's like some- like, I don't Santori doesn't really make sense at 88 whenever I just see him, like, casually.

Like, I guess, like, when it comes down to it, he's not, like, you know, he's not freaking Heiki Jiucela or something.

But he is just, like, Santori seems big, like, when you see him.

So like, there's just such a weird- Pavel Jehoworsk.

Yeah, Pavel.

Kind of a little boy.

Dude, I will say Pavel, much bigger than- Than he actually is like, my original thoughts of Pavel.

'Cause like, I mean, w- like, when I met him, he was obviously a lot younger, and then we saw him at the camp.

I was like, ooh, Pavel's big.

Okay.

All right.

You could- His shoulders- Yes, dude are like so wide.

He's really big.

Like, yeah.

He's, he's big.

Like, it's like, like I was like, ah, I wondered why you did 88.

You can't make 77.

Yeah.

Like, there's no way.

Like, he could not get down to the same size as Michael Sainz.

Like, there's just no chance.

So- Maybe, maybe the biggest guy in this bracket, Filipe Costa.

Filipe Costa- Filipe Costa is big, dude you know, is big, yeah.

Fought super heavy, I think, at IBJJF Worlds or, or- Joseph Chen not gonna be big for the weight.

Yeah, Joseph Chen probably, like- Raul Batista, pretty big smallest guy.

What are you talk- Joseph Chen looks like this.

The, let me Yeah, yeah.

Yeah.

Everyone hit the, hit the Joseph Chen act- Everybody hit the Joseph Chen action no, Joseph Chen, Joseph Chen is massive in the front camera, all three of us.

Everybody rate our- Am I doing it?

Rate our, rate our necks in the comments.

Rate our necks.

Give us a neck rating, one through three.

I've got a great neck.

You guys good?

Oh, man.

Better necks.

Rudy, you gotta work that neck, bro.

Rudy, you gotta work on your neck game, bro.

Dude, I, I really like this Nathan Haddad, Santori match, though.

Two guys who are gonna be fighting for that top position.

J Rod Farris.

Don't let Farris get hot.

Yeah.

Don't let Farris get hot in this bracket.

Mm-hmm.

King of the gringos, Farris the pumpkin.

Gonna, gonna heat up like, gonna heat up like a Moroccan tagine and, and fucking put himself through today, too.

Yeah.

Just watch.

He's gonna be Moroccan through the bracket, am I right?

All right.

Hop in the comments.

Like- Or give it to Trey for- Yeah.

We usually try to keep it positive in the comments.

Yeah.

I'm gonna give you guys If you timestamp properly, you can say whatever you want.

Yeah.

Timestamp that, roast me.

But yeah.

I, I don't know.

I feel like this division, like, just like- styles are crazy.

The body types are crazy.

Like, you have Filipe Costa, like, a big dude, tall, lanky.

You know, you have Farris, like, very compact, very big.

J Rod's just J Rod, I guess.

John Blank, pretty big dude.

Not super tall or anything, but definitely big, so, um- Like a solid 88.

Yeah.

He's like the, the average 88 size type of deal.

Same with Batista.

Just, like, that dude looks, like, very densely packed, you know, whenever you, you see him.

So We, we were trai- we saw some training with, J Rod over the weekend.

We went to a training session there, here in Austin with J Rod.

And, just- Are you allowed to talk about this publicly?

Are you gonna be freaking- I don't know are you gonna be crucified?

Just, he, dude, he's, has You know, I feel like we've, we've watched J Rod kind of grow up on the mats, you know?

He really started elite competition as a blue belt, you know, kind of as an offshoot of- 19-year-old yeah, of, of the Dad or Her Dad squad, when his brother was kind of killing it.

And, and J Rod kinda came in a little under the radar.

And, and we saw him, you know, for, for a lot over the years, and we've seen him a lot a- at ADCC, and everything like that.

And like I said, we've seen him kind of grow up on the mats.

And just watching him now, he's just so smooth and, like, fluid, his, his jujitsu.

He's just got a really fun jujitsu style to watch, because, like, he'll let you grab a leg.

He'll let you grab an arm or whatever.

It's like it, it's what he wants.

He wants to just kind of like flow through these positions, and really fun to, to watch.

You know what he was hitting a lot of that I noticed was that arm triangle, but you go over the top.

A farce, I think people are calling it.

Okay.

That, that, like, Australian, Serbian guy that we noticed- Yeah last year was hitting it.

Yeah.

It's Ruotolo team variation?

A little bit, yeah.

But, like, the arm is, is full in the other way.

Yeah.

He was hitting that like crazy, and J already has, like, one of the nastiest arm triangle games in jujitsu.

So for him to just be developing on top of that, good luck.

We were talking to a dude in, at Taylor Perryman's gym about the farce.

Really?

Like the Ruotolo team- Oh, yeah, that's right.

Yeah, yeah, yeah with it flipped over the other way.

It is tighter.

Dude, it's such a gnarly submission, to be honest.

Like, you, you have to have long arms.

Yeah, he was talking about, like, I think Andrew and Tommy Langaker or something like that from UWL?

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

I, I believe.

I'm Yeah, that's right.

I remember.

but yeah.

Like, you have to have long arms to do it, and you have to have, like, this weird shoulder flexibility, 'cause you have to kinda, like, throw your shoulder up and over.

And you get kinda weird when you're doing it, but I'm a big fan of the farce.

I kinda wanna learn.

I feel like I've tried to mess around with it, like, while I'm on the back a little bit.

And like, I, I just feel like I just don't have, like, good shoulder flexibility to, like, really get my shoulder- Tap yourself out yeah, yeah.

Yeah, 'cause you will kinda like hurt your own shoulder.

Get Americana-ed.

Yeah, yeah.

Yeah.

I don't know.

You kinda have to, like, turn your shoulder over walking in.

I'm sure I, I'm sure I'm doing something a little different or, or not, not correctly or whatever.

But like, when I was playing around- Maybe you gotta get gross with it, I was like, man, that hurts me too much.

Yeah.

That's just one of those ones that, like, yeah, you see, like, Geo Martinez show a submission sometimes.

It's like, good for you, Geo.

Yeah, yeah.

I'm never hitting that.

Yeah, exactly.

But it is 'Cause it's like, it, like, put, it, it puts the pressure downward into, like, their, like, carotid, I guess.

You know?

So instead of, like, locking it like this, where you're, like, locking upwards, it, like, kinda, like, cinches it down.

And you do, like, sometimes if you lock it, it's like you're almost stuck in the position.

Like, you kinda, like, get it there, and you're like, "Oh, shit, I can't really move.

If this guy taps, like, let me get out of it."

So I don't know.

I'm a big fan of it.

For sure.

All right.

I think you have a good, you have a better lever against the back, too, right?

Mm-hmm.

Your arm is kinda working as a better leverage.

Yeah.

Get a little better- Push them into the choke a little bit yeah.

Get like a wedge, too, or something.

Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm.

All right.

You guys wanna, you wanna do the 55 division while we're here?

Yeah, there's 88 kilograms.

Let's, let's do a, a woman's division and take a look at it.

There it is.

Drop, drop in the comments.

Let us know where the hell we messed this thing up, what we got wrong.

I saw some people on the last one, they were like, "Matei, Mateusz Cieszyski, four?

No way, Jorge."

And I was like, "Pfft."

Way, Jorge.

Yeah.

We'll see, pal.

We'll see, bucko.

You know?

But, let's go to 55.

That's revealing how not in the know you are.

Yeah.

Yeah, pal.

Okay, buddy.

Zero likes on that comment.

Am I right, boys?

Am I right?

You know what I'm saying?

Freaking got him.

No, I'm just kidding.

Appreciate you watching and commenting, pal.

All right.

Let's go- That's a good point let's go women's 55 division.

We also had an old fart in the comments saying this is the old fart rankings.

I think he said old guy rankings or something like that, but I read it as old fart.

'Cause Wagner was number one?

Yeah, maybe.

I can't remember.

I think he's old.

He was, like, saying, "I'm an old guy.

Here's what I would rank it."

Oh, okay.

Yeah.

Legend.

Yeah You know, another very interesting division here.

You know, obviously, 55, kind of a new division here for- for ADCC.

They, they split it from two divisions to three divisions in, what, that was just last, last ADCC, right?

Yeah, last cycle.

Sure.

2024.

So not a, a t- ton of history to, to go off of in this division, but, excited to see a lot of these kind of smaller female, grapplers get, get an opportunity, 'cause this is definitely We've been saying for a long, long time, this, this, this weight division is one of the most exciting women's divisions out there.

And, I feel like I, I c- I, I personally couldn't have quite picked this eight be the eight that, that makes it through the trials and stuff like that.

I feel like there was a couple others- Sure that I was, that I was circling and whatnot, but, a very interesting group of, of, of eight girls.

Obviously we've got to talk about Adele Fornaro being, the champion, the inaugural champion here of this division last time.

Adele has opted out o- of ADCC this year, so this just paves the way for a brand-new champion in th- in this division, which is, very exciting, 'cause there's, there's eight girls where this could really go any way.

Yeah.

A couple different ways, right?

Yeah.

I honestly have no idea who the one sh- seed should be.

You guys got any ideas, like?

So the returning place winners for third and fourth last time are Jazmine Hocher and Anna Rodrigues.

I think that that's a little complicated by the fact that they didn't fight at Worlds.

Anna had a torn ACL that she was kinda concealing.

But they did fight at Brazilian trials, South American trials, and Jazmine Or, or Anna got the win over Jazmine there.

So the time they faced off head-to-head, Anna won, and I think that, you know, them being returning Worlds place winners, that's probably our one and two seed.

But I would, I would still shade towards Jazmine.

She has the result at Worlds, even though they didn't have the match.

That's because Anna couldn't do it.

You know, I, I think that you gotta give the credit to the bronze medalist out of- Yeah, a win's a win.

You know, you gotta kinda show up is what it is, yeah and, you know, it's like, I, yeah, I do agree.

And it's kind of interesting that, that we're gonna give two Hochers- Straight up the one seeds in these divisions.

Yeah, true.

You know, uh- Maybe three.

We haven't done- We haven't done 99 yet.

True, true, true.

Mayra Bastos, obviously I think will be kind of regarded high.

She had a tough f- first round match up there in 2024, so she doesn't have the, the, the medal results or anything like that.

But obviously, you know, we all think the world of Mayra and just how dominant she has been in the gi over the last five years or so.

So definitely Mayra will be up there as well.

But, I think those are probably- So what do you think, Jazmine one then?

I go Jazmine one.

I go Anna two.

Jazmine got bronze in 2024.

Yes.

I think I, I, I could get down with Jazmine as the one.

It's kind of It's, it almost feels a little wild, right?

It does.

It almost does.

Jazmine as the one?

Yeah.

Well, just because I feel like we haven't seen Jazmine have the best results a lot recently and, and stuff, and, and so Put the g- Let me get the camera.

It makes total sense to me that Jazmine would be the one seed at ADCC Worlds.

I, Joe Gilpin, have no problem with this.

Fagner Jazmine, and Achilles, and Fafa, this makes total sense to me.

I don't have a problem with it either.

I'm just saying, isn't it, it do- doesn't it feel like, dang, that's crazy, you know?

She's transcended to that place in the jujitsu world already, like number one seed going to ADCC potentially.

Little girls growing up.

The one thing- All right I would point out for Jazmine, she has had hiccups when it comes to making 55 before.

Especially like 55 is not even 125, which I know that she's really had to pull for and, had to withdraw from, at least like one match before.

This is even a little bit below that.

So I know that she's gotta be hating life right now.

Salad's probably every meal and, and that's no fun.

But, yeah, if she can make the weight effectively, I think that she's gonna be an absolute menace out there.

Gotcha.

All right, you guys got any thoughts on who should be up next?

We have Jeanette Groeger, trials winner, Mayra Bastos, trials winner.

All four of these are trials winners, right?

And then Anna and Valerie are invites?

Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

Uh- Wow to me, and it's gonna get interesting here in a second, I think you have to give Mayra that, and I think Mayra has to face Jeanette first round, both AOJ.

True.

So, you know, teammates have to face no later than the quarterfinals at ADCC.

They're both AOJ fighters.

So I have Mayra at the three, and that's gonna put Jeanette at the six.

What do you think, Reid?

Yeah, yeah.

I think that makes sense to me.

All right.

Best of luck to Jeanette.

I know you guys were hanging out with, Jeanette a little bit over there in, Malaga.

Uh- Jeanette's really cool.

Yeah, yeah.

A really nice person.

It was really, really great to get to, to know her finally and everything.

Obviously she's, one of the Europeans who's, who's kinda putting it on the map out there and had the big win at the ADCC, European trials over Anna.

And, she's representing- Germany Germany.

Yeah.

But has lived in Spain since she was, like, two, I think she said.

She, she was born there.

She showed us the hospital she was born in- Oh, that's right.

That's right in Malaga.

So, but I, I think just, like, you know, like one of her- Two different parents or- one of her parents has, like, a German citizenship, and they, like, opted for giving her the German passport or whatever when she was born.

But- Something like that yeah.

And, and you can definitely tell with, with Jeanette that she's very young.

She's, you know It, it's kinda crazy that she, she walked into Santori's gym just dr- right down the street from her, from her house, I think when she was, like, 14 years old, and had been training with Santori this whole time.

So I think she's still young in the game, still has a lot to prove, and is still kind of rapidly getting better.

So that's an interesting person to, to, to watch out for, for sure.

She was like, like hearing Santori talk about her, and like kind of some of the stories Jeanette told us and stuff, it was, like, clear that she was just, like, a natural grappling talent.

Like, they both told us this story of whenever she was just, like, a white belt, and Santori told her, like, "If you kinda wanna be serious about this, like you could be a world champion at some point."

So, like, I think Jeanette said she, like, wrote it in her journal or something, like back when she was just starting as a white belt and all that.

So that's pretty cool.

She also not a person who, like, really knew the weight of what ADCC was or, like, what winning trials meant or any of that when she won.

She said that it kind of, like, took Santori telling her afterwards, like how big of a deal it really was that she's, like, going to ADCC and all that to kind of fully understand.

So that's pretty cool.

Um- What do you guys think for the four seed?

My kind of thoughts off the rip are Shaliah Lindsay.

I- But I don't know.

I wanna see, I just wanna see this match.

I, I would see this in, like, a WNO context or just, I really wanna see Shaliah facing, Anna Mayeredomo.

I, I think that, you know, we, we coulda seen that at North American trials.

Didn't end up seeing it because Anna had the knee injury.

I think Anna proved so much over this ADCC cycle that having her, like, sixth or seventh to me just doesn't quite feel- Mm-hmm appropriate.

I think the next two best girls, you know, however we wanna stack them here, are Anna and Shaliah.

That- Yeah that would keep Putting them four and five would keep, Anna away from Jeanette, so that there's not the rematch, in the semis.

True.

Uh- And then that's what?

Uh- Yeah, and then that- Kanai and, and- Valerie.

I think Valerie- trials winner and the kind of replacement- Yeah invite is probably the seven and eight.

Yeah.

I think Valerie- Pushing Maya to four will get the, will get the eighth, then Kanai gets the s- the seven.

I think that makes sense.

Yeah, Kanai at the seventh probably, and then Valerie was the last person in.

And so I think Valerie Hamilton, Jasmine Hochia probably makes some sense.

That's not a rematch, right?

Not that I can remember.

Maybe Jasmine faced her in one of her ADCC North American trials.

But it doesn't It doesn't Yeah, I'm not sure.

It doesn't remind me.

All right.

So there we have it.

Going from top to bottom, Jasmine versus Valerie first round, Shaliah versus Anna Mayeredomo, Maysa versus Jeanette, Kanai Yokoto versus Anna Rodriguez for, for these eight grapplers.

What do you guys think of that one?

It's a bracket.

Kind of a wild one, right?

Yeah.

No, it definitely is a wild one, but I think, you know, we've got the gr- the right people in those top four seeds, I, I think.

I agree.

Maysa Bastos I think, you know, probably has the best technique.

I feel like it's not crazy to say that.

But she is obviously, like, super undersized.

She wins her IBJJF titles at, like, 108 pounds in the gear, whatever.

One of two IBJJF 2026 black belt world champions who's gonna be at the ADCCs this year, her and Pato.

A- and, yeah, she has all the experience.

She has all of the know-how.

She has all of the everything.

She just real little.

She just real little.

And so, especially a rule set like ADCC, which is not strictly jujitsu, it, it combines and invol- it, it involves other grappling arts.

I feel like that's gonna be, the mountain that she has to over- climb and overcome.

And I feel like I remember Jeanette telling us that her and Maysa have never really trained before, to be honest, too.

Yeah.

I think I, I remember her saying that.

So while they are teammates, it doesn't sound like they've, they've trained much together before.

I, I assume because they, you know, when you're kind of a, a smaller female, you kind of a- assume that you're gonna kind of f- fight each other, eventually at some point.

Yeah, so.

Gi knew this is exactly how it would all play out.

Gi did know.

Gi knew.

Gi knows.

Yeah.

Gi know- we need to re- bring back, like, the Beau Knows Nike campaign back in the day and just do a Gi Knows.

Gi Knows.

Yeah.
