The NBA is about to cross a line no basketball league has ever crossed.
A single player, one million dollars for a game.
But who will get there first?
Start with where we are now.
When Shai Gilgeous-Alexander signed his four-year supermax, he got shockingly close.
In the 2030 to '31 season, he'll earn $79 million, or $963,000 per game.
But he likely won't be the first to break one million dollars a game.
The best bet, Anthony Edwards, is the front-runner.
Two straight All-NBA teams put him on track for a supermax in 2027, potentially worth up to $345 million, clearing $82 million a year by the end.
Next, Cade Cunningham and Evan Mobley.
And the next wave, Victor Wembanyama, Paolo Banchero, and Chet Holmgren could sign deals worth over one hundred million dollars a year.
Here's the mind-blowing part.
It's estimated SGA was already worth around $96 million in a single season based on wins he generated, meaning at a million dollars a game, these stars will still be a bargain.
But why is this happening?
One, the supermax contract, which starts at 35% of the salary cap, and two, a skyrocketing salary cap.
In 2017, when Steph Curry signed the first supermax deal, it started at $34.7 million, took five years to climb past $40 million, and is now projected to blow past $70 million.
It sounds insane, but it's basically here, and the only question left is whose name goes in the record books first?
