Criticism surrounding the San Francisco 49ers roster age has emerged as a national talking point throughout the twenty twenty-six off-season program.

One of the most polarizing in this debate is recently acquired star wideout Mike Evans.
But just how high is the wide receiver ceiling in Northern California?
Former Pro Bowl wideout T.J. Houshmandzadeh is incredibly optim-optimistic about this marriage.
"If he can play seventeen games," Houshmandzadeh explained during a highly compelling segment on the Speakeasy podcast, "this may be Mike Evans' best season because Kyle Shanahan, at least in my opinion, is that good of a play designer."
Demanding a complete seventeen game slate from a physical boundary receiver is undeniably a tall order.
The last time Evans successfully completed a full active regular season schedule was in twenty twenty-three when he was thirty years old.
Over the past two years, he's had soft tissue wear and tear that have limited his operational consistency.
In twenty twenty-four, he was active for fourtee-fourteen games, and in twenty twenty-five he was active for eight.
In twenty twenty-six, he'll be entering his age thirty-two season.
Houshmandzadeh noted that the gravity of elite playmakers George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey would heavily indicate defensive coverage, forcing opposite coordinators to leave Evans lost in the shuffle during critical isolated single coverage looks.
Again, the hypothesis entirely assumes that the 49ers can successfully get all three weapons on the field at the exact same time.
And until proven otherwise on live grass, this is an-- asking a massive favor from the football gods.
From a purely statistical standpoint, Evans likely won't surpass his single season record of over fifteen hundred yards.
As Houshmandzadeh pointed out, if the veteran target finds himself operating at that capacity, something is very wrong with the 49ers' other premium assets.
He said, "I can see thirteen hundred yards, eighty-seven to ninety-two ca-catches, and eleven to fourteen touchdowns if he can play all the games," Houshmandzadeh noted.
Whe-whenever the ball is funneled into his visual quadrant, Evans leverages his functional strength to routinely come down with the football.
That elite capability will undoubtedly serve him as a security blanket for Brock Purdy whenever he faces interior pressure and has to effortlessly throw it to move the chains.
