Axalta Name Makes Final Run on William Byron's No. 24 at Phoenix
Hendrick Motorsports unveiled a Jeff Gordon tribute paint scheme for William Byron's No. 24 Chevrolet for the Oct. 18 race at Phoenix Raceway, set to be the final appearance of the Axalta name on the car. The design honors a partnership dating to November 1992, when DuPont sponsored Gordon at Hendrick, a run that produced four Cup Series championships and 93 race wins. The change follows Axalta's planned all-stock merger with Dutch coatings company AkzoNobel, expected to close in late 2026 or early 2027 under a new name and ticker. The rebrand does not automatically end the sponsorship, which was extended in 2020 through the 2027 season at 14 Cup races a year, though plans for 2027 have not been fully detailed.
