This is Barrett's Breakdown, brought to you by Toyota.
And listen, the film does not lie, and this kid, Mekhi Lemon, out of USC, looks like the real deal.
And it's not even just the skill set, it's the desire and the passion that he plays with, Barrett.
It's easy.
It kind of jumps off the page at you.
I- it does jump off the page because, you know, you look, he can run excellent routes.
He's always getting open.
Even his zone coverage is hard to really, to, you know, make your mark at zone coverage, but watch how this kid does it.
You know, he, he's, he's great at understanding what the defense is doing, and here he is on the It's not the outside.
He's actually in the slot, because there's an outside receiver out there.
Watch him run a little comeback.
Bam, hits him over the top.
You know what I'm saying?
Hey, gets open.
That's zone coverage.
This is zone coverage again.
Here he is in the slot.
Watch how he uses his body to get around the s- the squatter right here.
As he gets around the squatter, gets up there, catches it.
Great body controls.
Outstanding hands.
Able to go back and catch it, bring it in.
Catches everything.
And then hand-catch it.
That's a big thing.
Yep.
Hand catcher.
Yep.
Watch how he stems in and uses his body, kinda twists a little bit, get on the outside.
Boom, get on out.
And watch this catch.
NFL catch.
Two feet in, ba-whoop.
He's already trying to be NFL-ready.
Not one, but two.
In college, all you need is one.
Yeah.
Here he is once again.
Watch him sit down in his route.
Comes off the ball fast, sits around, sits down, boom.
All right.
Straight up the field.
Woo.
No wasted motion.
Yeah, no wasted motion.
I'm trying to make it happen.
This is what makes this kid good.
Defense is gonna try to stop him, he can still get open, get to the open place, catch with his hands, use his body.
I mean, he caught that by, you know, when he was going backwards like this.
Brought it back in and finished the play.
Excellent receiver, excellent hands.
I mean, there's not much he can't do.
That's one thing I like, Barrett.
If you're a corner, couple of them over here.
If I'm Mekhi Lemon, smaller receiver, got a bigger corner- Exactly.
You know what I'm saying?
One thing I like about him, one thing- I still got it He'll, he'll be in here, and he can break here, and use his hands to break outside, dip that inside shoulder.
Yep.
He'll come here, stem the outside, break inside.
And then once he gets on top of you and stacks you, then he'll show late hands here.
Yep, and then he'll bend into you.
Yeah.
Come on out, and be ready to catch with his hands.
That's big.
Yeah.
Body catchers don't do well in the NFL.
When you catch with your hands, it gives you that longevity, because you can bring it in.
You catch with your body, everything's getting hit.
Bam.
Yep.
Let's go.
And, and he'll go over the middle of the field.
Sometimes these receivers that are coming from the college game, they don't wanna go over the middle field.
No.
Expose that midsection a little bit.
Yeah.
We talked off-camera as far as, I mean, he doesn't even have any pads on.
Right, right.
Yeah.
He's just tough.
I mean, he's going out there and playing ball.
That's a ballplayer you wanna see go over the middle of the field for you.
Third and four, at, at, in the Meadowlands, in November, gotta get that first down.
Absolutely.
Mekhi Lemon will do that for you.
And another thing.
Yeah?
Saquon running the rock.
They need somebody to get and dig that s- dig that safety out.
Boom, he comes in, he'll dig the safety out, block him, take him and drive him.
He not scared to block, either.
Yeah.
Barrett, we know you played tight end.
Have you played any DB?
'Cause you, you were in that two-point stance, ready to go.
He r- hey, let's go.
Okay.
Let's make that happen
