Baylor Football: DJ Lagway's Fresh Start and Future Prospects
DJ Lagway could thrive under Baylor's coaching after facing hurdles at Florida, boosting prospects for his hometown team. Has Lagway been a failure of coaching?

And one school that could very well be firing their head coach if things do not go well is the Baylor Bears.
And this is a program where you are at least incredibly familiar with their starting quarterback.
Y- I mean, y- you know, we've had a, a weird run of, like, these five-star freshmen who come in and it's, it's not sm- smooth running, right?
We just You know, Julian Lewis obviously last year at, at, at CU.
You know, the Malachi Nelson thing is not last year, but it's not, like, far removed.
DJ Lagway at Florida was someone I thought was going to have a phenomenal season, just could never get out of his own way.
But was that coaching?
I, I, I mean, you, you give me your thoughts on it.
I'm gonna give DJ Lagway a little bit of a pass and, and, and I expect him to do well at Baylor because we're gonna find out real quickly, I do think it was Billy Napier awful.
Calling, roster construction, game management, across the board, F, F, and more Fs.
DJ Lagway absolutely could have been a victim of that coaching staff and what Napier didn't bring there, just like he didn't get the most out of Anthony Richardson either.
So you're talking about two guys that were highly recruited quarterbacks that have been a disaster there, and Lagway goes to Baylor, maybe a fresh start.
It's home, by the way.
He's from that area.
You know, he went two gains though going away from home, so maybe a little home cooking will help.
I like Baylor plus seven and a half today because the fresh start.
And remember, he was a five-star.
He was one of the highest recruited quarterbacks in the country.
And to be honest, the only reason they kept Billy Napier an extra year was so DJ Lagway didn't leave.
But then you saw what happened last year, both were a disaster and everyone's like, "All right, enough's enough.
Let's start over."
I think Lagway will do better.
I'm not convinced he's gonna show five-star potential.
But this is a guy who was less than 20 to 1 to win the Heisman one year ago today.
So think about that when you look at Baylor, that they have a guy who was a five-star, who was 18, 19 to 1 to win the Heisman 365 days ago.
You know, the, the , the, the thing is, man, you, you watch the, the, the DJ Lagway highlights- I'm like, you see it bad.
And maybe may- may-- like, the, the You know what I mean?
And maybe, those are still too burned into my brain, but I played some Baylor here.
I did.
And I don't, like, dislike Auburn.
I, I see the vision with being able to keep Durkin so where the, hey, our defense is, you know, Auburn and our offense is South Florida.
But the offense being South Florida is a Byron Brown kid who can maybe play at this level.
Obviously, they beat Florida last year.
You know, you know, so can this combination work?
It is a neutral site game.
Like, it, you know, like it's not, we're not playing on Right?

So I think seven and a half is like a tick too expensive.
Like, at six and a half, I might be willing to lay it or, you know, probably back all the way.
I think getting that hook for a desperate, you know, Dave Aranda squad here was worth it.

I'm playing Baylor before I play Cal UCLA.
I do like Cal in this one.
I just think it, it's one of those toss-up games that if I had to choose between the two, I'm gonna go Baylor plus seven and a half.
I think Cal is a, a sneaky team in the ACC.
They're not gonna win the conference.
But my buddy Joe DeLeon w- was, was on my podcast, the "Betting with Baron" podcast last week, and he said he had Cal, the, the, the over six and a half wins.
He really liked it, and I asked him for three win totals, and that was one of the three.
I like Cal tonight.
It's gonna be an exciting game.
But of the two, I like Baylor plus seven and a half.
You mentioned the hook, and to be honest, I don't trust Auburn.
I do like the South Florida offense, and I saw enough of it last year versus Florida.
But I w- I'm in a survivor pool, which we all now come to love, and one pool is just FBS versus FBS.
There's only, like, 10 matchups.
I couldn't go with Auburn.
I didn't trust them, and I like Baylor plus the number of the two games.
