Last year, this field behind me was the scene of heartbreak for Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears.
This time it was a triumphant homecoming return for the quarterback as he led his team to a 25 to 24 victory on Monday Night Football, getting revenge over Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders, who pulled off an improbable and epic Hail Mary last year as part of the Bears' disaster season, But in 2025, with Ben Johnson as the head coach, Chicago is now 3 and 2 and looking like a completely different organization than the one who gave up that Hail Mary.
The Commanders had a costly mistake late in the fourth quarter as they were trying to run out the clock with their two-point lead, but a handoff between Jayden Daniels and rookie running back Jacori Krosky Merritt went awry.
The ball was on the ground.
The Bears pounced on it.
They drove down the field and got the win.
Bears.
Jake Moody made 4 of his 5 field goal attempts.
The one that he missed was blocked, so it wasn't really his fault.
And his game-winner was from 38 yards as time expired, and his first game with his new team.
After the San Francisco 49ers waived him last month, and Cairo Santos was unable to go for the Bears with an injury.
