About 12 hours after losing out on Kyle Tucker, the New York Mets pivoted.
And pivoted hard, throwing a huge deal at free agent infielder Bo Bichette.
Signing him to a three-year, $126M offer.
Uh, Bo Bichette likely to play third base for the New York Mets.
His arm strength graded out about the same as Alex Bregman.
So it is a move that he can make with Marcus Semien at second.
Jorge Polanco at first.
Uh, James, the two questions here are: How Does this impact the rest of the Mets' lineup?
And what do you think?
For fantasy purposes, we should expect from Bo Bichette, moving from Toronto.
Where he's played his entire career, to Citi Field?
As far as the Mets go, this definitely puts presumed 3B Brett Baty in flux.
He had a breakout season last year, graded as an above-average hitter.
Average defender.
A lot of people were looking forward step from him this year.
But a report from Ken Rosenthal said Brett Baty is now available in trade discussions, which may have been a prelude to this.
Bichette signing anyway.
And I think just the idea of sliding Bo Bichette into the upper third of a lineup, possibly either between Francisco Lindor or Juan Soto hitting directly after Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto.
Should be great for his value as a run producer.
Like that...
I know the Blue Jays' lineup was tremendous, and it was really.
Really good, especially down the postseason run, but they don't have two hitters like What Juan Soto and, yeah, Francisco Lindor are.
I know George Springer was that last year, but this should be a bump for Right now, he is being drafted as the 13th shortstop in drafts.
Yeah, and we'd have that added eligibility eventually of shortstop.
Third base, which is obviously a boon for fantasy purposes.
Part of the reason this deal came together so quickly: rumors the Phillies had.
Met Bo Bichette's demand for a 7-year, $200 million deal before the Mets swooped.
The question then becomes: Where do the Phillies go from here?
They do have Alec Bohm at third, so they don't need to make a move.
After spending this much on Bo Bichette, does this take the Mets out of it?
The running for Cody Bellinger, or could they still be in play there?
Truthfully, I bet the Mets went to Cody Bellinger with this exact offer.
And he said no, then you go to Bo Bichette.
It seems like the Mets have had a hard line.
Stance not to give out long-term deals this offseason.
Or really to anybody in the David Stearns regime, besides Juan Soto.
So to me, they might be out unless he wants to take on a similar deal.
And past that, the Mets still need help in their rotation.
They still need help in their outfield.
But after seeing this aggressive play, I don't think we can rule anything out.
