I don't see how somebody walks away from $40 million after a down season, and Bobo Schett has had a down season.
But let's, let's just play it out for conversation's sake, right?
I've had people tell me within the Mets as of, say, like July, June, "Hey, this is going to be a second half decision for Bobo Schett."
And Bobo Schett, by all accounts, has had a great second half so far.
So perhaps there is a world where you walk away and you say, "Okay, I'm gonna test the market."
But to do that, two things have to happen, right?
You have to, one, really wanna go somewhere else perhaps, and secondly, you see the opportunity for a long-term deal.
And right now, with a lockout perhaps looming, I have a hard time seeing that for anybody, even if it's gonna be Bobo Schett, even if he's had a strong second half and he could be the best free agent in this class if he chooses to be that guy.
I mean, sure, there's a world, but that world is Mars.
I- I see no universe where Bobo Schett opts out.
I mean, $42 million, that would make him tied for the fourth highest paid, paid player in baseball based on AAV.
That is a huge payday for him.
As Will said, this is a down year for him, even though he's had a, a fantastic second half.
I also feel like Bobo Schett is settling in, and right now has something to prove.
He is in this new place, and it was a really hostile environment for him.
He has spoken repeatedly about how difficult a transition it was, but he's getting comfortable.
And you have a comfortable player clicking at the right time.
He came here for a reason.
And now that he's proven to himself that he can actually produce here, I think he wants to see what he can continue to do here.
So all these factors, and the money.
The money is ridiculous.
I mean, I can, I cannot overstate this enough.
I do not think he's getting $42 million anywhere else right now because of his early struggles.
So yes, I believe Bobo Schett will be a Met next year
