5-4, Boston a winner over San Francisco, a five-and-one home stand for the Boston Red Sox, who are three back still of the Yankees for that fourth spot in the American League.
Jason Mannetti, Hunter Pence, Lou Merloni.
And Lou, I wanna start with you 'cause this Red Sox team has almost felt like they've played three separate seasons worth of one season.
How good has this team been the last couple of months, including today?
Well, today we saw a 30-second comeback win.
I mean, a- and this is the big difference, right?
The offense.
You know, you're down one, two, three runs, you know, they always believe that they can score runs, and that has been what's going on with this run.
Of course, Jake Bennett, you know, eight inning I mean, eight days off, you know, a little rusty in the first inning, but really settled in, gave them seven strong.
So they just continue what we've seen now for a few months.
Meantime, for the Giants, yeah, the record's not good, but so many close losses, 11 walk-off losses.
Here they had the lead, they lose by a run.
There, there are some positives you feel like, but not the payoff in the win column.
Yeah, you get the lead early and you, you're hoping you can hold it.
This is a good opportunity for, you know, a young pitcher to showcase what he can do at, you know, the fir- a really relentless lineup.
And for, for Tug Boat Wilkinson, you know, he, he pitched well a- and I'm sure he's gonna learn from this, but this is a tough environment, so I think there's a, a little bit to hang your hat on.
A lot of these guys are getting very valuable time in the big leagues to learn and make adjustments.
We saw a good at bat with, you know, with a runner in scoring position from Eldridge.
There are some positives, but they definitely gotta find a way to get over that hump.
It's, it's the big leagues.
It's on the margins, and this is a team that's i- in a race.
They have the best bullpen in all baseball, not able to make a comeback.
But they need to start stacking up a couple of those if they wanna go into next season with some faith that they can make a playoff push next year.
Final score, five to four here at Fenway Park.
The Red Sox get the victory and the sweep over the Giants.
