Is Boston Red Sox Front Office on the Same Page?
Team president Sam Kennedy and Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow have given contradictory messages on the team's direction heading into the trade deadline. Are they on the same page?

I wanted to take a minute to talk about the fact that it appears that the two most important people within the Red Sox front office, Sam Kennedy and Craig Breslow, are on different pages about how the Red Sox should approach the trade deadline.
Of course, Kennedy was on WEEI's The Greg Hill Show on June 11th, saying that unless things change dramatically, there will have to be a pivot from what the initial planning was, saying, quote, "It wouldn't be responsible to do otherwise."
In the 14 games since those comments, the Red Sox have gone just seven and seven, which is a seemingly clear sign that the pivot that Kennedy alluded to is just around the corner.
However, Breslow has made several comments indicating that he still believes that this team can go on a run to get back into the playoff race.
First, he told Tim Healy of The Boston Globe on Monday night that they're still not at a point where that decision is clear, and there's a lot of baseball games to be played between now and then, and they're still focused on getting the ship righted for twenty twenty-six.
He again doubled down on that belief on Friday morning on The Greg Hill Show, saying that they believe in the roster that they have, they believe in the players and know that they're capable of playing better.
Quote, "We have to win a lot of baseball games, and we don't have a ton of time to do it.
I believe that we're capable of doing it."
Of course, miscommunication has been a trademark of the organization for the better part of the last decade, with an ownership group that changes its organizational philosophies time and time again, dating all the way back to the twenty fourteen saga that led franchise icon Jon Lester to sign with the Chicago Cubs.
John Henry has refused to speak with the media since twenty twenty, which leaves Kennedy as ownership's forward-facing spokesperson.
As a result, Kennedy's comments should be taken as the stance of the ownership group, meaning Breslow's comments directly contradict that of his bosses, which is just again, the latest sign of an organization where not everyone is rowing in the same direction.
Despite everything pointing to that statement, Breslow remained steadfast that that was not the case, telling Greg Hill there is no disconnect between he and Kennedy.
Regardless of whether or not the two are on the exact same page, their public comments tell a completely different story, and if the Red Sox are gonna right the ship and build a contender moving forward, the organization has to fix its messaging problem to show a united front rather than two parties, the two most important parties within the front office at odds.
