Boston Red Sox Place Newly Acquired Curtis Mead on Injured List
After just one game in a Red Sox uniform, Mead is heading to the injured list.

The injury hits just keep on coming for the Boston Red Sox as according to Alex Speier of The Boston Globe, ahead of Tuesday night's game in Sacramento against the Athletics, the team will place newly acquired infielder Curtis Mead on the 10-day injured list.
The move, of course, comes in the wake of Mead getting hit on the left wrist in the fourth inning of Monday night's win against the A's out in Sacramento.
Mead, of course, took the field in the bottom half of the fourth inning, but when the Red Sox trotted out to the field in the bottom of the fifth, it was Anthony Ziegler that replaced the 25-year-old in the lineup.
According to Tommy Cassell of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, further testing on Tuesday revealed a broken left wrist for Mead.
Also, according to Cassell, the team has recalled switch-hitting utility man Nick Sogard to take Mead's place on the 26-man roster.
Obviously, just a super unfortunate result for Mead, who got just two plate appearances in a Red Sox uniform before going down with the injury.
And it also places an increased amount of pressure on Craig Breslow to go out there and make another move to add another bat ahead of the trade deadline.
Of course, Mead was being looked at as your way to add some power into the lineup, and now he'll miss who knows how long with that broken wrist.
As we've learned with Roman Anthony and Marcelo Meyer, wrists, hands, those types of injuries can be tricky, and you never really know how long it's gonna take for it to be fully healed to a point where you can swing a bat again.
So just a really unfortunate result for the Red Sox as th- their first trade deadline acquisition goes down after just two plate appearances in Boston.
