Braves Reportedly Sign Outfielder to Minor League Deal on Tuesday
The Atlanta Braves signed Jose Azocar on Tuesday.

The- the Atlanta Braves have continued to bolster their outfield depth.
On Tuesday, they agreed to a minor league deal with Jose Azocar, a move first reported by Aram Layton of Just Baseball.
This contract includes an invite to spring training, which is exactly what it is, a low-risk depth signing with a very specific role in mind.
Azocar is just 29 years old, and offensively, he's never really been that productive.
Over parts of four big league season, he owns a 244 average with limited power and on-base production.
But that's not why teams keep giving him chances.
Realistically, his value comes from his glove and his athleticism.
Defensively, Azocar has been very good.
He's played all three outfield spots and has accumulated positive outs above average everywhere he's lined up.
That kind of versatility matters, especially over a long season when injuries and rest da- rest days will pile up.
His 2025 season was a bit of a roller coaster.
He opened the year with the Mets and then briefly joined the Braves with... on a major league deal, but didn't really get an opportunity to play.
And he spent the most of the season in Triple-A with the Mets where he was solid, but unspectacular, stealing base...
He did what he was supposed to do.
He stole bases, provided speed, while once again posting below average offensive numbers.
That kind of pattern really defines Azocar's career to this point.
He can run and, and defend, but... and fill in at multiple spots, but the bat has never really come along.
Looking ahead to 2026, Atlanta's outfield is already very crowded.
Of course, they got Ronald Acua Jr. locking in right field and Michael Harris in center field with Yastrzemski and Profar expected to round out left field.
On top of that, they also have several depth players competing for bench spots and outfield spots.
That includes Mauricio Dubon, Eli White...
So there is some competition for Azocar to even end up on the roster.
Because of that, he's likely going to start th- the season at Triple-A Gwinnett for Br- for the Braves with their Triple-A affiliate unless injuries create an opening.
And that's perfectly fine for Atlanta.
This signing is about upside and insurance.
If the Braves need speed, defense or reliable late-inning sub at some point during the season, Azocar could give them a familiar low-cost option ready to step in.
