The Cleveland Browns open training camp with Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders battling for the spot of QB1.

Video Transcript

We know where you left off with the quarterback issue.

Where are we now?

Can we just pick up, alternating at this point?

Yeah, nothing's really changed.

We anticipate, alternating.

First of all, four quarterbacks are gonna compete.

They all won't get equal reps. Obviously, we will alternate just like we did in the spring, with Deshaun and Shedeur, with the ones.

Do you have a timeline on when you want to name a quarterback one, and how do you plan on divvying up reps for the two and three?

The easiest way for me to say that, and it still won't stop you from asking, not you particularly, but everybody in general, is the first game.

And we're gonna have to have a starter the first game, right?

I mean, ultimately, I'm not gonna decide who the starter is.

They decide by their play.

Their play decides who the starter is.

I don't, I don't have any pre- preconceived notions of how they played in the past or how they're gonna play.

I only can, with my eyes, judge.

And, and guys gotta play well around him.

I think we've, shored up some things up front.

We've added some weapons on the perimeter, so I think that's gonna help.

But they'll decide who plays.

I, I don't decide who plays.

The players decide who plays.

When you say all four quarterbacks are, are going to compete, we've been viewing this, of course, as a two-way competition between Shedeur and Deshaun.

So when you say all four quarterbacks will compete, what does that sort of mean for Dylan and Taulia?

Well, you know, I think I said it in the spring is that, everybody on a roster competes.

I mean, you're in the NFL.

I mean, equal reps doesn't mean you're not gonna compete.

Obviously you don't have as many opportunities.

You gotta take advantage of the opportunities that you get.

But you never know how it's gonna go at any position.

Minor injuries are a part of training camp, so guys go down, their shoulder's a little sore, and Dylan comes in, someone comes in and plays well, we're another position.

Again, we have to divide the reps up according to, the depth chart.

In a perfect world in camp, me personally, I would prefer the ones get 50%, the twos get 33%, and the threes get 17%, and somewhere the other guys gotta fill in.

Is that Can you always count on that?

No.

And so the more those guys, start, you start to see them with the ones, then you can kinda anticipate they're our starters.
