One of the more rare plays in football is the blocked punt, and Tampa Bay didn't block any last season, had two punts blocked, had five kicks blocked total, and that's why Danny Smith is in Tampa.
This is Joe Smeltzer for Bucs Roundtable.
Smith had been with the Pittsburgh Steelers for thirteen seasons.
Then when Mike Tomlin resigned, the Steelers assistants were told they could go look for other jobs, and Smith did, ended up getting hired by the Buccaneers.
And with six losses of the nine last year being by one possession, if just one kick had been blocked, one punt had been blocked in Tampa Bay's favor, maybe Tampa wins an extra game, and that extra game would have won them the NFC South.
But can't think about that.
I have to think about this year, and Smith should help.
Miles Killebrew, one of Smith's best players on his unit with the Steelers, should help too.
A former All-Pro who's gonna be back healthy, signed with the Bucs on a cheap deal.
And with the margin of error being so small, one play could make all the difference, and that one play could be in the form of a blocked punt, extra point, or field goal.
