Carlos Mendoza, Clay Holmes and Francisco Lindor talk anemic Mets offense, Holmes' injury, Lindor baserunning
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza pointed to a "lack of traffic" on the bases as the Mets offense continues to sputter. Francisco Lindor appeared to make a baserunning mistake in the Mets only sustained threat of the game in the sixth inning but despite being thrown out at third, Mendoza felt it was the right play. The only positive news was that starter Clay Holmes, who left the game with a hamstring injury, is confident that he will be able to make his next start.

Carlos, on that play where Lindor got back picked in the sixth, would you want to see him handle that differently, or did you like it because he, he broke up the, the chance of a double play there?
That's the right play right there.
'cause if, if he stays there, they turn a double play.
So now you got two outs running up there.
Like, in that situation, on a hard ground ball, you wanna stay away from the double play, and that's what he did.
You know, he kept the inning alive, first and second, one out, as opposed to running a third two out if he stays put.
So that's the right play.
What were the emotions in that inning, just having some momentum there and then obviously the, the inning ending double play right afterwards?
I mean, hope to get a rally going there.
you got a couple of guys on, which right now we're having a hard time creating traffic, and you finally get guys in scoring position with nobody out.
You feel that's a, a, a good opportunity there, and then, you know, well, they put us on the ground.
So, that's all to it.

Mandy, what's the, what's the status of Holmes right now?
I was actually just talking to him.
he doesn't, seem too concerned.
he just f- got to a weird position on a ball that got hit, to second base before that, at bat that he came out.
and he just s- he's saying that he l- he got to a weird position, and he felt a little tight there.
But the more testing that they're doing there, the better that he feels.
So we just gotta wait and see how he wakes up tomorrow, and, and see what we got.
But as of right now, he doesn't, seem too concerned.
Clay, what exactly happened with the hamstring?
What did you feel?
To lead off the inning, I think there was that, there was that chopper there, and I think probably just kind of in a weird spot there and, thought I was gonna have to make a move on the ball and felt a little tight afterwards.
And I think there was just kinda a weird feeling, and maybe there was some un- unsureness about, you know, kinda what was going on and, I think just made the smart decision to, to not make it worse.
But, you know, hopefully we're in a good spot.
You know, it's, doesn't seem, you know, too major, and we'll kinda see how it is tomorrow and go from there.
But, you know, I think it's, you know, nothing, nothing major here, and hopefully we can, get right here in a couple days.
Francisco, overall, what do you make of the offensive struggles recently?
see a lot of guys having quality at-bats, just the ball not falling for them.
I gotta get better.
At the beginning of the year, I was doing a really good job of controlling the strike zone.
Now I'm, I'm expanding a little bit.
So along with the hitting coaches, we've been working a lot on, like, trying to get back to that and just, control the strike zone and do a better job of getting the barrel to the baseball and, get innings going.
And then when there's people on base, just try to bring them to the plate.
What's your read on what happened there when you got caught at third base?
well, we definitely wanted to stay out of a double play in that situation.
I could have done a better job of holding on to a run down, try to get the guys to second and third.
and he fight and do that, maybe make him throw the ball to second base and then go to the plate.
so it's-- definitely there's room for, for-- room there for me to get better.
we stayed out of double play, so that's, that was the one positive.
on the other hand, I could have done a better job of trying to get the guys to second and third.
Without Soto, do you think guys on offense are trying to do too much?
I mean, Soto is irreplaceable.
He's one of the best hitters in the game.
But guys understand that, we gotta get it done.
You know, this is, is-- we're all professionals and, we have to get it done.
that's what it comes down to, you know.
