Chase Claypool Would Be An Intriguing Signing for the Colts

Ross Johnston discusses WR Chase Claypool and how he could help out the Colts WR room on the heels of his workout with the team today.

Well, here you go.

The Colts may finally be addressing their wide receiver room heading into the twenty twenty-six season.

What's up y'all?

It's Ross Johnston with A to Z Sports, and the Colts worked out veteran wide receiver Chase Claypool today.

Now, there are some things of note about this, but I ultimately don't believe it will be too much of a big deal.

However, I could see him getting added to the room.

Couple things to note is, one, Chase Claypool has not really played since the twenty twenty-three season and has really not been successful after being with the Pittsburgh Steelers when he was drafted there in twenty twenty as the forty-ninth pick in the second round, had two eight hundred plus yard seasons his first two years in the league and then dipped off mightily after that, getting moved around to the Bears and Dolphins respectively.

With that being said though, Chase Claypool is six four, about two hundred and thirty-eight pounds to forty.

He is a big dude, and the Colts really do not have that in their wide receiver room outside of maybe Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, who they brought over through free agency from Miami this past off-season, who is six two and about two hundred and ten pounds.

But what this shows me is that the Colts realize they might need another body in their receiver room, which is joined doing as of right now.

Alec Pierce obviously sidelined through training camp right now with the ankle cleanup that he underwent months ago, trying to get him ready to go for the regular season.

That's the most important thing for him.

But outside of that, you've got Josh Downs, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, and a sneaky draft pick that I really like in Oklahoma wide receiver, Dion Burks.

Now, the reason I think Chase Claypool might not make the team is that they already have a veteran big wide receiver in LaQuon Treadwell, who is on the back end of this roster that people may forget about.

However, if you want to pair the two together and put them both on this roster in the training camp, I don't see any way-- reason why Chris Ballard should not make that move.

Chase Claypool obviously has kind of been a failed experiment in the National Football League.

But again, when you're looking at the Colts room, you have to put in guys that are different from the rest, that look different, that move different, and Chase Claypool is one of those guys.

And with all that being said, I don't know if the Colts will make this move or not, and even if they do, will it be a big deal?

Probably not.

But if I was sitting in Chris Ballard's chair, I see no problem with adding Chase Claypool to this roster and seeing if he can make enough plays in training camp in the preseason to make the initial fifty-three man roster.
