Chris Gotterup caps off breakout season as captain’s pick for Presidents Cup
The Presidents Cup heads to Chicago later this month, with the U.S. taking on the best players from around the world outside of Europe. Gotterup was one of six captain's picks for the tournament. World Sport's Patrick Snell caught up with American Chris Gotterup at the Tour Championship.

With three wins behind him, it's already been a breakout year for Chris Gotterup, and nailing down a place on the US President's Cup team makes it all even sweeter.
Cherry on top of the season.
Obviously, that was my main goal coming into the year is to be on the team.
And having missed out last year on the Ryder Cup, not that I felt like I deserved to be on the team, but just getting in the, you know, kind of the mix and the talk and, you know, watching on TV, kinda hurts to watch, when you're not there.
And, you know, I wanted to go out this year and, and do what I needed to do to be on the team.
So yeah, I mean, it would be awesome and, and something that I'll, you know, be ready for.
With Gotterup securing a captain's pick for the biennial showdown with the international team in Chicago, it's a rich reward for a player who not too long ago was struggling to make cuts.
It's really hard to kinda crack into that upper echelon.
And once you're there, you kinda feel comfortable, and it's, it's easier to play better when you're comfortable.
At, at the start I was not comfortable and, you know, felt pressure and all that stuff.
That is why the, you know, tour is, is, is what it is.
So I just feel like I'm more comfortable now, and I've taken my punches and I'm gonna continue to take them for sure.
But I feel like I am much better at getting up off the mat now than I used to be.
You use that word pressure, and of course- Yeah great expectations now with you every time you take to the course.
How- I wonder how do you compare the pressure of, of a struggling golfer with the pressure of a really successful one, one who wins?
They're both pressure, but they're totally different.
I feel like the pressure of a struggling golfer is, "I'm gonna lose my job," pressure, which is really tough, and the pressure of expectations, which my expectations are high, and trying to just stay in the moment and, and keep getting better and better and not let, you know, things get to my head and try to, you know, keep everything at bay and, just try to go out there and be able to play with a clear mind and, and do what I need to do.
2026 is a year Chris Gotterup will likely remember for a very long time to come, a year that would see fraternal bonds strengthened amid enduring career moments to cherish.
Looking back over time, it'll be cool to have the, have the trophies in the, in the trophy case and, and just be able to, you know, talk about stuff that, I'll remember for the rest of my life for sure.
And I've had some cool moments this year.
Obviously, Waste Management is, is one of those events that we get excited about every year, and to win that is awesome.
And then John Deere with my brother on the bag is, is a good one.
And Hawaii to kickstart the year was, was awesome.
