Caitlin Clark's impact on the WNBA has become the center of a growing debate, with two media figures now arguing that the Indiana Fever star could have more value outside the league than within it.
Since Clark entered the WNBA in 2024, the league has experienced major growth in attendance and revenue, followed by a new collective bargaining agreement that significantly increased player salaries.
But the report says recent off-court controversies have raised questions about the direction of the league.
Those disputes have included debates over transgender participation in women's sports and the controversy surrounding a Flagrant 2 foul involving Clark's teammate, Sophie Cunningham, and DiJonai Carrington.
Against that backdrop, Outkick founder Clay Travis has argued that Clark should consider leaving the WNBA and building a league around herself.
Travis compared Clark's influence to athletes such as Tiger Woods, Serena Williams, and Ronda Rousey, saying those stars helped take their respective sports to another level.
He said, "I'd rather have stock in Caitlin Clark than in the existing WNBA."
Arguing that Clark could attract a larger audience on her own.
Travis also questioned why the league would risk damaging its relationship with one of its biggest stars, saying, "They got the golden goose and they're trying to strangle it."
A similar argument came from Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy after Clark received a technical foul against the Chicago Sky.
The call came after Clark accidentally made contact with a referee while being pushed out of bounds.
The technical would have counted as her eighth and potentially triggered a one-game suspension, but the WNBA later rescinded it.
Portnoy responded by telling Clark, "Just go start your own league already."
He also described the treatment of Clark as disrespectful while pointing to her performance in the same game.
Despite the outside criticism, the report says Clark has continued playing and producing for Indiana.
The Fever have continued winning games while Clark remains focused on competing despite the attention surrounding her and the league.
