Hey, welcome back to Sportsnet Central.
Last night at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre, the world premiere of Cold War in Philly: Flyers versus Russia 1976.
The documentary recounts the Flyers' monumental victory over the Soviet Red Army team.
Famously, the Russians left the ice to protest the bullies' hard-hitting style of play.
Langhorne's Joe Amadei put the documentary together by interviewing as many former Flyers as he could to tell the story.
And many of those players in attendance last night still feel how important that win was 50 years after the fact.
Well, at the time, we were the reigning Stanley Cup champions, and the, the Russian Red Army had gone through the other teams in the league and beaten them all.
So it was for the prestige of the NHL that we, that we beat them.
I just met a gentleman today from London, England, and he was an eight-year-old boy, and he watched the hockey game in London.
He became a hockey fan.
He plays, still plays hockey today.
So it goes to show you the impact that ha- that game had the impact on not only us, but people all over the world
