Could the Chicago Bears go shopping before the NFL cutdown deadline on Sunday?
This is something we need to talk about, and there's one position in particular I'm watching to see if Ryan Poles makes a move at or not on the defensive side of the ball.
That position is cornerback.
The Bears had two injury scares during Thursday's joint practice with the Tennessee Titans.
Jaylon Johnson and Tyrique Stevenson both got injured during Thursday's joint practice.
Stevenson did return to the field, and I think it was more so showing the coaching staff that he is healthy, because they eventually end up taking him back off the field like, "Okay, yeah, you're good, you're good."
But Jaylon Johnson, he went to the sideline for the rest of the day, no pads on, next to Al Harris.
I don't think it's gonna be a long-term concern for either players, especially looking ahead to week one, but I do think the depth is a big concern.
So, let's talk about four options the Bears could look to bring in via trade or the waiver wire here in the next few days.
The first name to watch is Christian Fulton of the Kansas City Chiefs.
We know Ryan Poles likes doing deals with his former team.
Fulton, the former Titans second round pick, signed with the Chiefs last year on a two-year, $20 million deal.
And it's looking like with L'Jarius Sneed, Noah Williams, first-round pick, Monsure Delane, all those guys are standing out for the Chiefs.
Fulton could be a trade or cut candidate in Kansas City to watch out for for the Bears.
And then the big name is still Joey Porter Jr. With the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Joey Porter Jr. Is entering the final year of his rookie deal.
Looking to sign a long-term contract, then the Steelers might honestly sign him to one.
They just freed up a lot of money with DK Metcalf's restructure.
I think this is still a long shot for Joey Porter, but he would be an absolute home run addition to add long-term to this secondary.
And another one that John Sharon of A to Z Sports Cincinnati gave me a tip on was Josh Newton.
The Bears just had a joint practice last week and preseason game with the Bengals, so they got to see Newton in action.
Has eight stars under his belt, the former fifth-round pick in 2024.
Seems like he's falling out of favor in Cincinnati, though, and could be on the move.
And finally, Reidy Stewart, a guy that was actually with the Bears as a rookie and followed Matt Eberflus to Dallas.
I think this guy can play in the nickel and can be a real serviceable player if he ends up hitting the waiver wire.
