Cubs Expected to Recall Javier Assad From Triple-A
Fresh off a dominant Triple-A outing, the versatile right-hander rejoins the active roster in Miami to bolster a surging rotation and provide crucial flexibility for the stretch run.

What is up, Cubs fans?
And welcome back to Cubs Roundtable.
I'm Joey Polizzi, talking about all things Cubs.
And a familiar face should be back on the big league roster for the Chicago Cubs.
Javier Assad should be activated within the next few days, and could be activated as soon as Saturday against the Miami Marlins.
Assad has spent the last two weeks down in the minors, but now with the 15 days up, the minimum is expected to stay in the minors, Assad could be back up.
He was already on the taxi squad on Friday, was in the outfield with the pitchers before Friday's contest.
The Cubs obviously couldn't call him up then because the 15-day minimum wasn't done yet.
But on Saturday he could be called up, could be Saturday, could be Sunday, but Assad is going to be called up very soon by the Chicago Cubs.
And obviously Assad deserves to be with the big league club.
He has been one of the Cubs' most consistent pitchers this season, whether it's been in that starter role, whether it's been in that relief role.
Assad has kinda ran with everything the Cubs have given him this year, and has posted some really good numbers.
While you can point out the metrics as, as being poor, strikeout rate, whiff rate, expected batting average against, expected ERA, all poor, the results are there for Javier Assad, and he continues to deliver for the Cubs.
So yes, Assad deserves to be up, and with the rosters expanding, Assad should be up for the rest of the season.
He is very consistent.
The Cubs can throw him in as a starter, could throw him in as a reliever.
Lot of flexibility there for the Cubs as they kinda navigate the end of the season.
Now, Assad could be as a s- pitched as a starter this weekend against the Marlins.
It was supposed to be Clay Holmes and Matthew Boyd this weekend, but those two spots on Saturday and Sunday are TBD, so with the important series against the Brewers next week, Cubs could push one of them back and have Assad start one of those games this weekend.
But Assad should be back up very soon, and he's well rested to give a full starter's workload, as he just threw five and one-third innings of one-run baseball back on August 30th against the Triple A Toledo.
