And welcome back to Cubs Roundtable.

I'm Joey Polizzi talking about all things Cubs.

And the Philadelphia Phillies have officially overtaken the Chicago Cubs for the top wild card spot in the National League.

And obviously the Cubs have held that top wild card spot for most of the last two months, but the Phillies have been on a recent hot surge as they are 21 and 7 since August 1st and they have officially overtaken the Cubs.

The Phillies lead one game up for the top wild card spot.

And in most instances, when a team that you're trying to catch in the standings keeps winning, you're not really happy with it.

You want to root for that team to lose so you can overtake them.

But in this situation with the Phillies, I think it's a good idea for Cubs to be rooting for the Phillies to continue winning.

And it's very simple why.

Because the Cubs should want the Phillies to win the National League East.

This drops down the Braves to the wild card because in reality, the Phillies in the wild card round on the road could be really, really tough for the Cubs going up against Christopher Sanchez, Zach Wheeler, Jess Luzardo.

And while the Cubs did rock Sanchez and Luzardo earlier this year, those two pitchers look a lot different five months later here this deep into the season.

I think if you're the Cubs, that's a scary match-up.

You go on the road to Philadelphia, face those elite three pitchers and obviously a tough match-up for the Cubs offense.

But if the Phillies go ahead and overtake the Braves in the NL East standings, and they're only three games back and they still play six more games, the Cubs could play against the Braves and I think that's a much better match-up for the Cubs offense.

Yes, they got Sale who, you know, could go on to win the National League Cy Young Award, but the other two guys, Bryce Elder, Tyler Maile, Martn Prez, those guys aren't scary in the sense that, you know, the Cubs would have to avoid guys like Wheeler and Luzardo if they played the Phillies.

So I think it makes sense for the Cubs to continue to root for the Phillies.

Let the Phillies win the NL East and the Cubs can set up a series against the Braves, which is a better match-up.

And I mean, who wants to face the Phillies right now?

They've been the hottest team in baseball for most of the last two months.

But let me know what you guys think about this.

Should you be rooting for the Phillies?

Let me know down below.

And as always, guys, go Cubs go.
