This isn't all that surprising right now, but if you need a little catch-up on the George Pickens off-season drama, it was reported leading into the draft that Pickens had signed his franchise tag.

This led many to speculate that he was going to be now under contract and then be able to be traded, at which point during the draft a team could trade for him, and the timing made it seem like that was probably what's going to happen.

The draft comes and goes, and obviously he is not traded, and then right after that it's reported that, well, no, he actually didn't sign that franchise tag.

A few days later, he does by the team's official account, so this is 100% correct, does sign that franchise tag.

Now he's not showing up to voluntary off-season workouts, stuff that veterans don't always show up for, contract or not, so I don't think it's any reason to panic yet.

I do think it could foretell some more troublesome stuff coming down the line.

That would specifically be a holdout.

Nowadays, it's a hold-in at training camp.

And while a hold-in isn't a death sentence for a wide receiver, fantasy or not, it has been troublesome.

You think about the 49ers receivers, Jauan Jennings and Brandon Aiyuk, looking for new contracts, maybe having some sort of mysterious injury woes during their off-seasons when they were trying to get that new contract, and they show up, they play poorly, and they can't stay healthy.

Other instances where it works out perfectly fine.

I don't think this is a panic situation on George Pickens.

I do think it has my ears raised, though.

For right now, like I said, I'm not panicking.

I still think he's an elite upside wide receiver, too.

We're two months out from training camp.

If that comes and he is not showing up or at least not practicing at training camp, at that point you have my permission to get worried.
