Doug, being the last game of your first full season, what are your kind of musings and thoughts on, on kind of where, where this has concluded?
would take I-it's a good question, but it would, it would take me a little time.
I, I would say, like, just right off the, the cuff, I, I really like where we're at with our young players.
I like how they're competing, how they're playing, the style of play, the physicality, the sharing of the basketball.
I, I like a lot of things that, that they've done.
and that is a building step to go forward.
There's a lot of things that I wanna fix, and we will be working on it all summer and into next season.
But to start where we're at, that's one of the biggest things.
And considering the numerous adversities that you guys have dealt with when it comes to injuries, how have you managed all of that?
You know, r-really, it's more of, it's a day-to-day thing because there was, like, literally, like, every day something was popping up.
So you just, you go into it every day, at least I did, with a fresh mind.
you know, I'd get into the building early and kinda decompress and light my candles and make sure that my mind's right because the energy that I'm passing on to them is the energy that we're gonna go with.
So daily, that was probably my biggest thing, is not to really worry about where we're at, what we got.
What we're gonna worry about is the process of how we're gonna get to where we go.
Because this is obviously part of our process, and it's a painful part of our process.
But, it will be as gratifying as anything that I've probably ever experienced in my life to climb this hill.
Last one from me.
what are you most proud of from, for, in, in you, in your job?
I might say that, is like holding my brain together in a way that allowed me to function daily at a high level.
and because one thing I know is, like, it's, it's diff- this, this game is difficult and now sitting in this chair, this job, it's not easy.
But the ability to hold and stay consistent with my approach and my attitude through everything is probably one of 'cause I can get a little gnarly sometimes.
But for the most part, I, I, you know, held it together and I, I hope that, my, my team, and I think they did, felt that because there is a consistency with the head of the ship that needs to be there.
Doug, what would you say is your biggest area of growth from last year to this, the end of this year as head coach?
that's a, that's a good one.
Probably just, you know, everything slowing down a little bit and seeing it that way.
the, when you're in, in this position and the way that it happened last year, like, whoa, and everything is moving super fast.
And then even you come into this year, and then everything just started happening, so it, that, that moved super fast.
And I, I thought that as I kept going, there was a calmness and a relaxation that I began to say, "Okay, here we go.
We see that.
We want this.
Let's do that."
ATOs and different things, like the ability to communicate with those guys, and it, and it happens when things slow down, and I, I experienced that from being a player.
