Drama in Ann Arbor: Michigan vs. Western Michigan Recap
Michigan narrowly beat Western Michigan 13-12 in a contentious finale, sparking debate about conference refs' financial bias. Michigan avoids embarrassment.

Oh, and we saw some drama, to say the least, on Saturday.
And we have to go to Ann Arbor with Western Michigan and Michigan with that crazy ending to that game.
No question they put that second back on the clock there in Ann Arbor to save face for Michigan not getting upset, and beating Western Michigan 13 to 12.
There's a couple things of context here.
First and foremost, we have to get rid of conference referees.
It's gotta be a national conference when it comes to picking referees across the board.
You've gotta have a standard referee system like the NFL does, where these guys can go to any conference and they can ref these games without any impartiality.
That's exactly what you saw.
Why in God's name would you think in Ann Arbor, Big Ten officials are not gonna be going for the Big Ten team and giving them every opportunity for them to go out and win that ballgame?
It was like a do-over.
They basically hurt Western Michigan's chances, obviously, by putting that second back on the clock.
And having these Big Ten refs, Southeastern Conference refs, look, this is all about protecting the cash register.
Now, with all that said, you know why Western Michigan hasn't really kicked up their heels and really made a big stink of this?
Well, let's just be here to tell you the reality behind the curtain here.
You think the MAC is gonna jeopardize the Big Ten and their relationship with the Big Ten on scheduling non-conference games?
$1.5 million was given, whether or not they won or they lost to Western Michigan.
Next year, you've got another MAC team going into Ann Arbor.
You think that conference is going to jeopardize that relationship when you have conferences now that are handpicking who your non-conference games are gonna be?
They want that relationship to stay.
They do not want to dent that relationship in any way whatsoever.
That's why the MAC is not going over the top in saying that they got jobbed in that game in Ann Arbor, nor would anybody else.
If Western Michigan wants to, say, get a away game with Indiana for $1.5 million, do you know how important that money is to programs like Western Michigan?
This has got nothing to do with right and wrong.
This has got everything to do with the economics, and it also shows you this: The Mid-American Conference has no backbone.
They can't fight the Big Ten.
They're in a position right now where they're a submissive to conferences like the SEC and the Big Ten.
You jeopardize those relationships, the chances of you making money on going to those buildings are out the door.
That's why nobody's really making a stink there at the MAC when it comes to s- talking about how that game finished.
You know, for you and me, the fans, obviously Western Michigan got jobbed in that game.
But at the end of the day, this is about money, my friends, plain and simple, okay?
All, all this is today is about money.
I said this a little bit in the open and I'm gonna say it again.
Clemson is out of gas.
Dabo Swinney has done such a great job at Clemson.
He really has.
National championships, 10-win teams, all the things that you would want for a big-time college football program.
He's a Hall of Fame coach.
He's a Hall of Fame man.
He's been on our program, and he's a dear friend of ours.
But maybe it's time for a new zip code for Dabo, and maybe a change for Clemson.
Clemson right now has not embraced the NIL.
Clemson has not embraced, in any way whatsoever, the transfer portal.
They haven't.
And when you get crushed 51-10 like that, and you're not even competitive That team was not competitive.
You have so many good opportunities.
Clemson is a rich school.
Clemson is a rich program.
And when you're getting your head kicked in like that on national television, your program's going in the opposite direction, and you're not embracing college football of today.
Dabo's still in the time when college football was back in the Saban days.
I see Saban doing those commercials now to save college sports.
College sports?
College sports is continuing to evolve.
Dabo's not.
Gotta say this about LSU.
Boy, I'll tell you, that team looks for real.
And you know what?
They're the ultimate villain, and I should be embracing that because our football teams were the ultimate villains back in the day.
And there's something about wearing that moniker and having that bullseye on you.
When you open your mouth as big as Lane has, the target is even bigger.
People are looking to take shots at you all the time.
That program is must-see TV this year, and it's all because of the head coach.
