Ex-UFC champ cleared for training following eye surgery
Rose Namajunas has been medically cleared to resume training after eye surgery, underscoring active discussion around fighter safety in MMA. In an Instagram update, the former strawweight champion said her eye and thumb have healed following UFC 324, where multiple eye pokes against Natalia Silva preceded a procedure that kept a silicone tube in place for nearly three months. She noted she is slightly out of shape but officially cleared to train. Namajunas proposed stricter penalties, including immediate purse deductions for accidental fouls, citing potential long-term damage. The two-time 115-pound champion is 3–3 at flyweight, with wins over Amanda Ribas, Tracy Cortez and Miranda Maverick, and losses to Manon Fiorot, Erin Blanchfield and Silva.
