Mike, are you surprised that the Golden Knights went with an internal option here for their next head coach, especially since they just did quite the opposite by, by going out and getting Tortorella when they did?
This is the worst-kept secret in the world.
They have been grooming Ryan Craig.
He was an assistant coach for Gerard Gallant, for Peter DeBoer, for Bruce Cassidy.
I think they've been grooming him for the head coaching position for a while.
They've sent him down to Henderson to get head coaching experience, and I think the plan wa- I don't think they wanted to put him in the position of coming in late in the season with eight or nine games to go and then fail, because he, you know, b- is being inserted.
They, they brought in Tortorella.
He got them as far as they could.
I don't think the plan-- maybe Tortorella was surprised that he didn't get the, a chance to go further, but I don't think i- in Kelly McCrimmon's mind there was ever a, a, a moment hesitation that they were gonna keep him and not go with Ryan Craig.
So the, yeah, you know, he's gonna get the opportunity now with a very good team, and we'll see how far he can take them.
