Video Transcript
It is a spectacular Saturday in SoCal as the 81st U.S. Women's Open moves into the weekend at Riviera Country Club.
Nellie Korda now, third at three.
Again, looking to chip this one in, and this time she- has done it.
Goes left at the end.
Yes.
And South Africa's Casandra Alexander, second shot at the fourth.
This is a similar area where we saw Nelly Korda get up and down with the wedge.
Even better.
Really important to not let that miss on the last hole affect confidence with this club.
She didn't.
To tie the lead, Sei Young Kim at six.
It's been a big climb- back to the top for Sei Young Kim.
We've seen five amateurs make the cut.
24 began this championship, and seemingly every championship there's- an amateur who kinda distinguishes herself.
It's one of my favorite parts of this championship.
Oh, and she did both.
Here's the location for Sei Young Kim, left of the green.
Has a good look.
And that's the side you wanna play from.
We saw how much this breaks from Nelly's putt.
Little bit slow.
Oh.
She got it there.
Gabby Lopez.
To make it a three-way tie at the top.
So the movement continues on to Saturday in this third round.
I think it all matched up perfectly for Schabuna, who moves within one.
Definitely a much better angle than what we saw from Sei Young.
Lands it in a better position.
Trundling it up and over that ridge, Tom.
This is gonna be very tidy.
Good lie off the up slope.
That was excellent shot.
Typically you'd wanna take one or two more clubs.
Maybe some kind of a gap wedge or a pitching wedge when you have that much ground to cover before you want it to land on the green.
To 13.
Let's see if Korda can make clean contact with this.
It looked like she did.
You know, it was a good effort.
So she will have that to stay three under.
Picks it off the turf.
It's on a really good line.
Is it up?
It's up, Bones.
And it is really good.
Sei Young Kim that close to taking the sole lead in the championship.
I think because that wind is picking up, hurting a little bit, this is, should be plenty of club.
Oh.
Judged beautifully.
And there's a nice grandstand behind this hole where everybody got a nice view of that.
And look at how open she is set up with her feet and her body, but her club face is aimed at the flag.
Get in, get in, get in.
Oh, that is so good- from Chun.
Chopped down on it.
It came out perfectly.
Just textbook right there.
Kept her weight forward.
That club face was so far open, just to try and get as much air under the ball as she could.
The kikuyu nearly stopping the club- at impact.
Turning it over from right to left.
Little bit right of the flag.
Needs a little bit of a kick.
Safe.
This could be fantastic.
You see how she walked after that?
She is feeling it.
She is a feisty competitor.
A lot of fire.
Eucalyptus tree framing the left side of the green.
Well, we said it was a challenging hole.
Sei Young hit the tightest shot of the day.
Good shot.
Followed by Hinako, and now Ingee with another wonderful chance.
Looks like she's almost set up a little right with her feet there.
Yeah, it's drawing back a little, Morgan.
That's it.
Should be enough.
Oh, yeah.
And Korda's in line for a birdie to try to keep pace with this top of the leaderboard.
Sei Young Kim, the leader at the 14th.
Another par 3, 168.
Ooh.
Never really tell- Goes, goes on a lot with Sei Young's one-handed finish.
She's kinda like the Hideki Matsuyama of the LPGA.
She leans.
Oh.
And Chun just knocks it in.
Lopez's birdie putt now on the way.
14.
And that comes up short, but Chun with another birdie.
That at the 12th to get to 6 under.
Ties Sei Young Kim at the top.
There's been one birdie all day on the 12th hole, and now there's been a birdie in each of the last three pairings.
Oh.
Well, if she holes this, she'd be tied for the lead.
Downhill, right to left break, quite slick.
Good-looking line.
Oh.
She's thinking about holing it.
Oh.
And that will be left for birdie to get within one.
Flighting a draw.
A little bit left of it.
Oh.
She takes that hand off the club seemingly every time, and she's got a great look at birdieLevel lie.
Going at it with a hard nine iron.
That's it.
What a shot by Korda, and a chance to deliver an exclamation point to her Saturday and tie Chun for the lead.
And Nelly Korda has indeed reached the top through 54 holes, six under.
Just needs to sit down.
Yeah, ball sitting well in the rough.
She's opened up her club face.
Gonna take it up in the air.
Big flopper here.
Checks on the second bounce.
That is terrific.
How good is that?
Something we just heard Nelly say, Jamie told her it was the fastest putt on the golf course.
Oh, yeah.
Go, go, go.
You're in the hole.
Go, go, go, go.
Nice.
She's got to be careful here not to be, to hit this too hard and it could really get away from her.
So you wanna max out your break here and to have perfect speed.
She has struggled from the five to seven-foot range this week.
She's only made one putt out of seven from this range.
But this one's right in the middle.
Yeah.
And we have three players tied for the lead here.
Not this time.
So Nelly Korda and Sei Young Kim share the top.
Chun takes a step back.
Just aim at the TV tower, which is right behind the flag.
This is a really good line if it's the right distance.
I've seen a lot of beauties in here today.
Oof.
One of the six holes today playing under par on this golf course.
This shouldn't be more than left edge, as long as Chun keeps up the pace for her third birdie on this back nine.
Made birdies at 11 and 12.
How about that shadow right over the hole, Amelia?
So difficult to read the putt.
Yeah, and it's kind of, obviously it's a flag that's being buffeted by the wind, and it's kind of going back and forth there.
It's a strange look for the player.
No problem at all for Jennifer Kupcho.
Let's go.
And Kupcho with back-to-back birdies, looking to do what Nelly Korda did today and finish with three straight.
Gets a nice bounce to the right.
Get in the hole.
Oh.
Look at that speed.
She's got plenty coming back for par.
Yes.
Beautiful par save by the three-time major champion who won this title 11 years ago.
Korda and Kim tied for the lead.
And look at Charlie Hull back there at three under.
She finished her third round with a round of the championship four hours ago with that 65, and will head into the final round just three back, in search of her first major champi-
