Sophie Cunningham has overtaken Indiana Fever teammate Caitlin Clark in Instagram followers, becoming the second most followed active player in the WNBA on the platform.
Cunningham has now reached 4.1 million Instagram followers, moving ahead of Clark, who remains at around four million.
The development was highlighted by Essentially Sports on social media, announcing Cunningham as the new number two most followed active WNBA player on Instagram.
Cunningham's social media following has grown significantly during the 2026 season, with several moments helping increase her visibility beyond the basketball court.
One of the biggest moments came in July when Cunningham's point finger gesture became a viral meme.
She also appeared at UFC 329 on July 11th, serving as a co-main event ring girl during the lightweight matchup between Paddy Pimblett and Benot Saint-Denis.
Later in July, Cunningham also drew attention for speaking publicly about her position on transgender athletes and her stated focus on protecting girls in locker rooms.
Despite moving ahead of Clark, Cunningham is still behind Atlanta Dream star Angel Reese in overall WNBA Instagram following.
Reese currently leads the league with 5.2 million followers, putting Cunningham about 1.1 million followers behind her.
The Instagram milestone comes during a productive season for Cunningham with Indiana.
The 2019 second-round pick has appeared in 39 games and is averaging 8.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists.
She has also been an important scoring option from the perimeter, shooting a career-best 43.4% from three-point range this season.
Cunningham's increased following has therefore come alongside a season in which she has continued to contribute for the Fever both as a scorer and as a player coming off the bench.
