Jackson Koivun secures final spot in FedExCup playoffs
Jackson Koivun secured the final spot in FedExCup playoffs after he finished T-29 at the Wyndham Championship on Sunday.

71, one over par, but it is good enough, so he makes the FedEx Cup playoffs, in, in those six starts.
That is the second fewest ever.
Tiger Woods did it in five events back in 2000.
Here now, Jackson Koywon headed to the playoffs.
Different type of nerves when you know you don't have your stuff, and, you gotta go out there and execute some, execute some shots.
And, I think that kinda sparked some emotion in me.
And, yeah, it, it's easier to get comfortable when you're playing well, and, it was just kind of a, a different feeling for me today.
I mean, obviously I wanted to make the playoffs, and I knew that was a far-fetched goal.
But, if, if I told myself back in, back in June that I'd be sitting at 70 and waiting it out in Greensboro, I think I'd be pretty happy.
All right, so, among the questions now being, floated, should he be under consideration for Brandt Snedeker's Presidents Cup team, United States, late September at Medina?
US heavy favorites, there's this idea that they can afford to invest in youth.
And remember, what the Europeans did with Ludvig berg, 2023, he played in Rome without ever having appeared in a major.
That has paid off for them, so this investment in youth.
The other side of the coin is, you know, Brandt Snedeker's not out here, you know, running an exhibition.
This is his chance to make his mark, and he can't afford, you know, to run out guys with- without, experience, certainly when you have players like Cantlay and Justin Thomas, that are possibilities as picks.
So where do you stand on that?
Well, Rich, I know that you are a pro Jackson Koywon pick guy.
I, I'm pro investing in the future, and I would add the caveat that I, I'd like to see him, perform certainly in this next event, make it to the BMW, maybe a top 10 in one of the two tournaments, then I would take, I would take it under serious consideration.
Then you could maybe take it under c- serious consideration, but what if Michael Brennan does the same thing?
I, I was gonna say, you know, Brennan's in the same conversation.
I think right now it looks like to me those two If you're gonna go with, with youth here- Brennan and, and Koywon, again, barring something dramatic that they both do, maybe, you know, each wins a tournament in the playoffs, I- are playing for one spot, I- i- in my estimation- That's- the way I'm looking at the, the guys on the list here.
You could also tho- throw Thorbjrnensen in there as well, with the win last week.

Another young guy.

Those two guys, in my opinion, I would take over Jackson Koywon, just because of the- Really?
The small sample size that we have from him.
I mean, he's played six events as a pro, Rich.
That's it.
Look, I- These guys are a little more seasoned.
They've been out here longer.
They've taken their lumps, and they're all hot right now.
I'll give you some names real quick.
So six are gonna be automatic qualifiers after the BMW, Scottie Kam Deng, Russell Henley, Sam Burns, Ben Griffin, having had a great year, Collin Morikawa.

Then it's at seven right now.
It's gonna change, but Chris Gotter- Mm-hmm absolutely a lock- And- I think, for the team.
J.J. Spaun, near lock.
Mm-hmm.
Xander- And- absolutely.
Wyndham Clark, absolutely.
Then you get to Justin Thomas.
Mm-hmm.
Yes to Justin Thomas and all the fire that he brings and the success he's had?
Are, are you gonna pick Jackson Koywon or Justin Thomas?
You're probably gonna pick Justin Thomas.
Okay.

That would be disrespectful- I agree to, to JT un- unless he, you know, just completely caves in the next couple weeks.
How about Patrick Cantlay, you know- or, or Jackson Koywon?
I'm, I'm saying Cantlay doesn't have any top 10s, let's say, in the playoffs.
Uh-huh.
Where, what would you do there?
Well, I mean, the way that you would justify it is if you pick Jackson Koywon over Patrick Cantlay is if he outperforms Patrick Cantlay in the playoff events that he plays.
Now granted, he's gonna have to play his way in to the second event because he made it on the number at 70, so he's gonna have to have a really good week next week to qualify for the, for the next week's playoff event in St. Louis.
There are some other guys that, you know, are floating inside the, the top 20 on the US list.
It's Jacob Bridgesman, who won it- Mm-hmm Riviera, Akshat Bhatia, who won at Bay Hill.
Mm-hmm.
Harris English, who's, you know, tough guy, and Ryan Gerard.
Mm-hmm.
So- Well, it, it's better- fair, fair to say, fair to say that these next couple weeks will determine it, and, and if the young guys play well, you'd, you'd give them more serious consideration.
Sure.
You know, I think it's better to have too much than not enough, and I think that's what Brandt Snedeker has at his disposal is a number of players that are worthy of making that team and a num- a number of players that are good enough to make that team.
Things are gonna shake themselves out a little bit more once these FedEx Cup playoffs start, Rich.
Be a good storyline for the Presidents Cup to have one of these, young players there.
