I'm good.

I'm mad at myself.

I caught you, you know, brushing your forehead with a little something before the show, and I wasn't able to get my phone up in time to catch you in the act again.

'Cause I think one of my most popular tweets I've had in recent weeks, was catching you putting on some makeup before you went on TV.

Connor and makeup.

Yeah.

I, I guess, you know what I, I underestimated and I, I, I don't know if maybe, like, we're just in this bubble of what we do for a living.

Yeah, yeah.

Like, I, I don't know if people totally realize that, like, any guy who goes on television wears makeup.

Eye TV, yeah, yeah.

And that's not a flex.

It's not, "Oh, look at me, Mr. TV Man."

It's just, it's, it's a, it's a, it's a technical thing.

It's not to make me look beautiful in any way, shape, or form, because that, the odds of that happening- That's what they all say.

That's what they all say that has failed.

All of us have these lights around us.

Like, if I could flip this camera around, like I got three studio lights in front of me.

Dude, my forehead shines like nothing else- if I don't put something on it.

And when we're on the stadium, it's even worse, because, like, there's lights coming down from the stadium, then al- like, we have a cam- a light in front of us as well that, like, you look glistening.

It, it, it literally looks like you're sweating your you-know-what off of whenever you're, you're, like, doing this thing, or you're sweating your you-know-what off of whenever you're in front of the camera, so the makeup just kind of hides that sweat.

But yeah, I, I admit, Zach, you did, you did get me, you got me pretty good with that video, and it went- It did go, it did go Jets Universe viral, I admit.

I admit.

I'm not like you though.

It was just perfect, 'cause- I wear the hat, right?

Yeah, yeah.

Well, I, when I've had to make, in studio, like, TV appearances, they do, brush some stuff on my dome so it's not too reflective, I'll admit.

But it w- that was a perfect storm because it hit both the people who like making fun of you, like me, Coz, you know, friends of yours, and, and Jets fans who like you, and it also hit the people who don't like you, who are like, "Uh, look at this guy.

Yeah.

He puts on makeup.

Look at this foo-foo."

Yeah.

It, it was a good one.

Wait, Coz wasn't done, because that was the other part of this.

Yeah.

I know our, our incredible production team wanted to give this some play today.

When, Coz was destroying me on social media like he usually does.

Co- I do, so I think, like I, I've seen some fans- Well, well read it off for people who are, read it off for people who are listening.

I can't even see it.

I'm, I'm too, I'm too far away from my return.

It said, it said, "There, there seems to be a troubled individual talking to himself on the field," and it was you, recording one of your selfie videos.

Yeah.

So I, I have, a handful of reporters, both for the Giants and Jets, and then nationally.

Their Twitter notification's turned onto my phone, so if something happens it gets pushed to my phone so I can see it right away.

Coz is obviously one of them.

Dude, I'm on the field and I get my phone.

Like so, selfie videos are everything, and we're, we're gonna move, we are gonna talk about the Jets here in a second, 'cause I know the comment section- is gonna be losing their mind over, "Ah, Jets talk starts in eight minutes," like whatever it is.

But when, I assume they would probably like me getting made fun of.

But I, I looked down at my phone, dude, and I get, like, the Coz tweet, and I see, like, Brian Costello sent a tweet.

And all I do as I'm walking up to the press box is I see it's the field.

I just see the graphic.

Yeah.

And immediately I'm like, "I know exactly what this is.

Exactly what this is."

Dude, those selfie videos pop off.

I like your angle, just, like, shoved up your nose, like you do after your practices every now and then.

I know.

I gotta, I guess I gotta angle it more- Samantha had me in there with, like, streamers you ma- you made me think that, "Okay, maybe I gotta angle it up more up than, than down," but.

It's not as bad as Dunleavy on Zooms, but it was, yeah, I'll go more, it's like, it's like a this.

You're like this, man.

Like you, I, I'll give you credit though.

I don't know.

I'm just like- 'Cause I was ready to make fun of you for nose hairs- I'm walking around, it's hard for me to s- it, I have ADHD, it's hard for me to multitask.

So, like, you know- That's fair holding up, trying to focus on holding it up and walking and talking, like it's a lot.

There were no nose hairs though, so, so give Samantha a shout-out- for, for trimming those up for you.

Also we wanna give a big shout-out to, Jocko Bunger and Garden State Hep 1733.

Those guys were super involved in our live chat, last week, so thank you, guys, so much for being involved in the show.

Like I said, Jake's monitoring that, and then after the show I go back and read most of the comment section.

Like they, they can be very, very, very mean.

So they, I try not to read too many of the mean comments.

But I do peruse there, so when you guys are, are trashing Zach or you're trashing me, I do see them and I, I take your criticisms to, to I dropped my phone.

I take your criticisms to, uh- to heart.

The strong arm.

It matters.

I'm trying to be better.

All right, so we're getting to Jets talk now, as we probably should have earlier on.

We're definitely gonna be dragged.

This is like an old Can't Wait episode where, where I used to talk for like 27 minutes- about golf and then get to the Jets, but the Jets were terrible then, so it made sense to not wanna talk about them.

All right, let's get into this one, Zach, because the Jets finally do have the 53-man roster that they are going to take with them into the regular season cut down day.

Always one of the more fascinating ones and interesting ones, because sometimes guys get cut that you don't necessarily expect.

They keep guys that you don't necessarily expect.

I will say, and we're gonna break all this down throu- throughout the next hour or so on this roster, and we're gonna go not only with the roster breakdowns, waiver additions, who they might still be looking to add to their practice squad because they can absolutely still do that.

And then we're gonna end the show with a little over-unders, compiled via FanDuel Sportsbook, and also the Zach Rosenblatt Sportsbook where you put some on there as well, which I'm very interested about.

But, I would say that what's probably the most interesting part about this cut day is I don't know If there were any, oh my god, surprises.

There, there, there were a couple.

I think Braden making it was maybe a little bit of a surprise on the defensive line.

Nate Lynn not, but you also sort of saw that coming.

Mozzie Smith getting cut, maybe one.

But dude, I, I wasn't I, I didn't have anything that happened that was that big of an argument for me on, on my side, and I don't think there was anything that, that was that big of a surprise to me either.

No, it, it, I'd say it was the least eventful cut down that I can remember.

Like, usually you get, like, a surprise one.

Like, the one I always think about was, I think I wanna say it was '22, when the Jets cut Jason Pinnock.

Like, it seemed like he was gonna be their starting safety- Yeah and the next thing you know, they cut him.

I think that one, like, took me s-by surprise, and there's been some, like, little ones here and there that happened.

Like, you know, I think last year we anticipated Malachi Corley getting cut, but any time you cut a third-round pick a year after you picked him, it's at least mildly surprising.

But yeah, like, none of these guys that were cut, we expect.

I think the sh- most shocking thing, which we'll get to, is that Brady Cook was claimed off waivers.

Yeah.

Like that's, that was the most surprising- Yeah thing to happen in my mind.

But, you know, the waiver claims that the Jets bring in, like, that's always interesting, and we'll get to that.

But yeah, the, the, the players themselves who they cut, like, like, there's guys who became fan favorites like Morrie Bamba and Nate Lynn that you mentioned, and even Jordan Clark to an extent.

But, like, you know, they obviously didn't make it through waivers, so it ultimately was not a big deal.

Like, if those guys had gotten claimed, the Jets fans would've gotten mad, but, you know, there's always a couple guys each year that the fan base gets attached to, and by the end of the year- Mm-hmm they forget those guys exist pretty much, and they don't- Yeah really amount to I'm not saying these three guys won't amount to anything, but, you know, e- every year there's guys like Fans are mad that Quinton Skinner didn't make the team last year, if you remember.

Yeah.

There's, there's a year where, like, Calvin Jackson was a receiver that was, like, going off, and Chris Streveler didn't make the team.

Everybody's like, "Oh, why'd you let him-" Brownlee, Gibson, when they did- Donovan Edwards last year were gonna be the next stars.

Donovan Edwards.

Yeah.

Like, there, there's, there's guys that fans get attached to.

They don't make it.

You flip out.

In the beginning of the year maybe they'll be like, "You should just call up X player," and then by the end of the year they completely forgot, as they're getting mad about something else.

But that's part of what makes this time of the year fun, like, fans get attached to random guys.

Yeah, and it's, again, it's, it, you see it all the time.

I remember, Jordan Renout actually, who works for ESPN, was one of the guys that, that turned me on to this.

My very first training camp, I was covering the Giants in 2014, and I, I forget the player.

It was, like, a, a defensive end, like a second or a third team defensive end, and he was tearing it up, and I forget the guy's name.

Maybe it was, maybe it was Moore?

I can't, I can't remember.

But he was tearing it up, like, having a really good summer, and I remember Jordan saying, like, "Connor, you need, you need, you need to kind of come back down to earth here with this one-" Yeah because, yes, he's tearing it up, but who's he tearing it up against?

Like, a, a second team defensive end you probably still think can get in there and play a little bit on Sundays.

Your second or third team offensive tackle, you know you're in trouble if that guy steps on the field.

So you kinda have to all have it.

The same thing with the receivers that tear it up against third or fourth string cornerbacks.

Like, yeah, they probably should be doing something, along those lines.

So, I would say that What is that email I just got?

That one scared me a little bit.

I just got a- password reset request from X.

That's not a great sign, is it?

Oh.

Oh, I thought, I thought you were getting fired on air.

That would've been crazy.

No, that would've been really fun, too.

No, I just got three straight password reset requests from my X account.

That's somebody, so somebody trying to hack into your Twitter it sounds like.

It does seem like that, doesn't it?

All right, so other trade day or, cut day recaps.

I'm trying to recalibrate myself here while also looking over to my right- now where I got my Twitter up over here.

I agree, Zach.

I didn't see anything.

Maybe some of the makes that surprised me, Arian Smith making it.

I didn't think he had, he had a particularly great summer or pre-season.

But the thing with Arian Smith is, like, if you cut him, who are you keeping?

Like, there's no one really that was there- Yeah that was a surprise.

Braden McGregor over Lynn, but I think you know what you have a little bit more with McGregor than Lynn.

Andrew Beck, Malachi Moore, I don't think those Well, Beck's just your fullback, but Moore I think had a great summer.

The Jets decided to keep him.

We did see, though, if you want to expand on this a little bit at all, another wheeling, dealing Darron Mooje- doing a late round pick or a pick swap pretty much to get Jordan Meredith from the Raiders.

In 2024 he was actually pretty good, 80.8 Pro Football Focus grade, but the other three years of his career he was pretty, pretty bad.

Depth signing, center guard flexibility, get somebody else in there, because we do know, Zach, I think we agree on this statement, if s- the Jets' front five, starting five offensive linemen, they look good.

If they were to lose one of those dudes, I think the entire outlook of the line changes considerably and quickly, and this is kind of a stabilizing force, you hope, if you have to break glass in case of emergency.

Yeah, a couple things.

I, you know, I think the season reference rate is really good.

Two years ago he was playing guard.

He was left and right guard, whereas last year he was mostly center.

I think it was his first year as a full-time center.

You know, it's kind of a little bit funny how often we talk about how Geno was in an impossible spot last year with a terrible offensive line, and they've now added two-fifths of that starting offensive line.

I think the fact that Meredith is a reserve kinda, like, doesn't make it, like, exactly one-to-one.

Like, I think Meredith you can be happy with as a backup.

Mm-hmm.

But clearly the Raiders were probably gonna cut him anyway.

You don't trade a, trade a starting center away for a sixth round pick, if you were gonna keep him.

So, the Jets badly needed a backup center.

Xavier Newman was not the solution we saw in the summer.

Y- a- and he has experience with Geno, which is not nothing.

So, I don't mind the trade, and I think it's one of those Mooje type of moves where, like, he identified the various spots on the roster that they needed to add something, and we'll get into two other spots, what, and those were, reserve offensive line, specifically at center, linebacker, and kicker, and they addressed all three of those things.

And so, you know, smart trade.

Not like, you know, ag- it's one of those things where he's done this a lot, where he trades a day three pick.

That's not really He's kind of s- flip flops around seventh and sixth round picks, trading them away, adding them, trading them away.

And you get a rotational backup who's an upgrade over what you had, and that's all you can ask for in- Yeah you know, late August And then aside from that, the Jets didn't have their initial 53.

They made two claims on the waiver wire to adjust their 53, those players, being Blake Group, right?

Isn't that how you say his last name?

Or it's, uh- I've been saying Groupie, but I don't know if it's Group or not.

Group, Group.

I think it's Groupie.

Uh- Okay Aaron Glenn said Groupie yesterday, but also the only thing Aaron Glenn could said about the kicker is that he's tiny.

So, like, I don't know- I know, he- if you totally knew how to pronounce his last name.

His f- his first, his first comment was to say how short he was.

Yeah.

So we'll go, we'll go with Groupie though.

We'll, we'll call him Groupie.

So it's Blake Groupie, the kicker, who had a tremendous summer with the Indianapolis Colts.

90% make rate in training camp.

I saw Mike Garafolo tweeted that.

He obviously got that from the team, so we're just gonna Or his agent.

So we're gonna trust- that that's, that's the true statement, 'cause they don't release those stats to anybody.

So 90% make rate in training camp, that's a good one.

They're moving on from Jason Sanders, which should have happened too.

Like, I'll tell you what, the biggest red flag, you have some coaches that you can just trust they know a certain thing, just believe them 100%.

John Harbaugh is one of those guys, when it comes to special teams, just believe him.

So when he released Sanders after he was with the Giants, basically saying that he doesn't think he can kick in the northeast, and then the Jets claim him, are like, "We're gonna try," and then sure enough, like, it was a complete and total disaster, it was right to move on from him.

And then they claimed, Trevin Wallace, former third round pick from the Panthers.

Started 20 games throughout 2024, 2025.

Last year had 61 tackles, two sacks, four pass breakups.

Not particularly good in the analytical department, 56 Pro Football Focus grade the previous two years, but he was very good this preseason.

Played a ton of snaps.

I think I saw 80 across the three games, and had a 76.9 PFF grade.

So the Jets aren't expecting Wallace to start, but he's just a depth piece to throw in there as a backup on Tyquan Sherwood and Damario Davis.

And then obviously they have their new kicker.

Yeah.

Couple of moment, couple things about this.

They did bring back Sanders on the practice squad, by the way, so there is- Yeah an outside chance that he still kicks for the Jets this year.

But yeah, I mean, Group, he, once the, the kick- the kicker started getting released, he was the best option, 'cause it sounds like Ben Sauls from the Giants is hurt, I guess, 'cause they s- released him with an injury settlement.

I would've been interested in him.

Wallace, from what I can gather just from talking to people, it's, it sounds like he's a really good athlete, didn't really make a lot of splash plays, struggles a bit against the run, but is decent in coverage, and the Jets just needed a better third linebacker, and I think he gives you that.

Mm-hmm.

And, and just real quick, wanna circle back to Brandon McGregor making it.

I think a reason he made it is that it sounds like Joe Asay is gonna miss some time, and that's something we didn't- Yes cover in that beginning part.

He's gonna be week to week.

I mean, it s- he has a plantar fascia injury.

It sounded- Yeah pretty severe, but, Glenn called him week to week, not serious.

I, I mean, it's possible he goes on IR, and returns in four weeks or something like that, so I'd be surprised if Joe Asay was playing in week one.

They never should've let Michael Clemens go.

Never should've done it.

Should've kept Michael Clemens, man.

Never should've done it.

I will say this about Groupie, and this, this is my only thing that I am, I am timid of.

When you bring on a kicker that you've never seen kick in your building before, I do have flashbacks to Vedvik, because Vedvik was a guy that looked so damn good with the Minnesota Vikings.

He could kick, he could punt, he could do everything.

He got into MetLife Stadium, and it was just a disaster.

He didn't see it right, he didn't feel it right, and it was a MetLife thing where he just couldn't kick there, and it was a disaster.

And the Jets lost that opener to the Buffalo Bills in large part because he missed a field goal he should have made, and he missed a PAT that he should have made.

I think it was 17-16 was the final or something like that.

So they should have won that game to begin the Adam Gase era.

I think in having Sanders, in having S- Sorry, I got somebody knocking on my door.

It might be Brooke, I'm not totally sure.

My in-laws are down there though- so they should have her.

This is, was that, we were talking about before, I'm getting a new HVAC furnace and water heater, and the electrician's here, like doing an outlet downstairs.

So at work, the Hughes house is a disaster zone right now.

We're, we are all over the place.

It's like full on construction going on below me.

This is just absolutely incredible.

Just tell the- All right, focus, all right tell the electrician to watch, watch your kids.

Focus.

Just tell the electrician- Yeah, all right to watch your kid.

I'm sure they can handle it too.

Yeah, yeah.

Well, Brooke was out there in the garage.

I was like, "Brooke, you gotta get in."

Like, Bro- like, oh my God, Bro- this is, we're all over the place.

My thing with keeping Sanders and Groupie is that you believe in Groupie.

You like the stats, you like what you see, you like the a- the analysis of it all.

However, you still have to actually see him kick.

Like, you have to see that transpire, and you have to see that happen.

So you get him in your building.

Like, there's a chance, dude, that Groupie goes out there and he misses like 10 kicks in practice, and you're like, "Holy crap, this is the only guy we had."

So now you still have Sanders as a backup plan.

If the dramatic or the drama happened at some point, you could cut Groupie and activate Sanders and have him be your kicker.

Now, I don't think that's going to happen.

I like the upside of Groupie.

I think it's gonna be fun to see how this one plays out and how this transpires, but that's one of the reasons why they did it.

All right, real quick before we move on here, 'cause we are gonna talk some quarterbacks, the practice squad that the Jets have added to this point, Maury Bamba, Cam Camper, Jordan Clark, Pascal, Marquiz Hayes, Jack Heflin- Al J. Henderson.

You know how to say Pascal's last name?

Ekeji?

Yeah.

Jaden Keller- He's an international guy Nately.

Yeah.

Malik McClain, Xavier Newman, Xavier Newman, Peyton Page, Jamal Pritchett, Troy Reeder, Jason Sanders, and then Sam Womack.

Of all those guys, I think probably the biggest one was Troy Reeder.

That was, that was a huge, huge addition for the Jets.

I'm just saying that 'cause I broke that story.

That's the only reason.

Well, he is a veteran, he is a veteran linebacker, so there's- Mm-hmm a chance he's, plays for the team at some point.

Um- There's a chance all these guys play for the team- I'm just- let's be honest here, so.

Yeah, yeah.

I mean, you can never rule it out.

I always say if they have a quarterback on the practice squad, he's gonna play for them at some point.

Right now, Bailey Zappe's not on there.

It sounds like they plan on signing him, but you know, there's some interesting quarterbacks out there.

But yeah, let, just looking.

Troy Reeder pl- has played in 106 games, 38 starts.

Been with the Rams the last three years.

His last year as a full-time starter was 21, with the Rams actually, uh- Yeah and 91 tackles, two sacks.

So for, for a practice squad guy, that's good.

And then they brought back a lot of the guys we mentioned earlier.

Maury Bamba, Clark, Jack Heflin had a pretty good summer.

The Al J. Henderson's a fun story.

I think Garafolo broke that one.

He's a guy that- Tried out with them in the spring, didn't make the team, and then I get, think he tried out with them again recently, and they really liked what they saw, so they just straight up signed him to the practice squad over some guys they had in the building already.

So that's notable.

But yeah, I mean, Sanders coming back is the interesting one to me.

And, and then whatever they do with quarterback, like, if it's actually Zappy, if it winds up being somebody else, you know, that, the third quarterback on this team is gonna be pretty important, especially if- Yeah Cade Klubnik's only your QB2.

You need someone with experience, I would think, so.

And that's a great transition, Zachy.

That's a great one.

Hey, there you go.

We'll, we'll go right into the quarterback talk now, because I, I think just moving on here from the general overview, the, the, the main storyline coming out of, of the Jets cutdown, I, I was actually talking to one of our producers here, Mike Robinson, you know, kind of just preparing for cut day, because for the Giants doing them as well, it was like, "Okay, we, we're gonna want an immediate reaction video if Tyron Tracy were to get cut, Darius Slayton, anything that happens with Odell Beckham."

Like, there were key players on that team where you're like, "These guys are on the chopping block that might be let go."

With the Jets, there wasn't really any player, unless there was something totally out of left field that was gonna happen, that would be considered, like, an immediately react to this.

Because again, most of what they did for that 53-man trim was most of what you and I could have saw coming, give or place an offensive lineman or defensive lineman here or there, which isn't gonna, you know, demand immediate news.

The one sur- not surprise, because we knew it was happening, but the commitment to him when Aaron Glenn spoke to the media yesterday, it is Cade Klubnik as quarterback two.

He's going to be the backup.

There's gonna be no competition.

Bailey Zappe is gonna be added to the practice squad.

Wouldn't surprise me to see the Jets also explore other options to add another quarterback to that practice squad.

But they're going into the season with two on the 53-man roster, and that's gonna be Geno and it's gonna be Cade, for better or for worse, or as Aaron Glenn said, he believes that he's going to do a pretty good job.

Yeah, just wanna shout out a question from the chat about this topic.

"What are the odds Jets actually go into the season with Klubnik as a backup?

Four teams got four QBs.

Levis and Milton got cut.

Gotta do something to upgrade from Kevin Pennel," 4117.

I do think the Vikings cut their fourth quarterback, so I don't know if it's still four teams.

But, I mean, they, they sound like they are ready to roll with Cade Klubnik, and it, it's, I think they've been ready this whole time.

I think they were open to the idea of, you know, maybe adding a Andy Dalton, but I don't think they want to trade anything for him.

Like, I- Yeah I don't think the Jets wanna trade anything for a quarterback, is what we're finding out.

And what we're also finding out is that there isn't as much interest in these guys that the fans are interested in.

Like, Will Levis did not get claimed by anybody, and as far as I've seen, he hasn't been signed by anybody yet.

Um- No and we're a day after the cuts happened.

So, like, Joe Milton is someone I'm intrigued by, but if he makes it through waivers, then clearly I don't know what, other teams think about him.

'Cause if, if people really value, like, his potential, he's a quarterback, you claim him on waivers.

So the Jets just decided they didn't like the options out there.

You could argue maybe they should've signed someone ear- earlier in free agency and all that stuff.

I ultimately think I don't mind what, that they're going into the season with this as their two.

Like, I think we've seen the flip side of this before, where, you know, Zach Wilson is the starter, no doubt, and you don't have a veteran backup to, like, mentor him.

Would you like someone to be, be mentoring Cade Klubnik?

Sure.

But you do have Frank Reich, you do have Bill Mus- Musgrave- And Geno and to a degree Geno.

A 35-year-old veteran.

And to a degree Geno.

Yeah.

And, and so, like, I Your starter is the veteran ultimately.

Like, and so do you need a third quarterback?

Like, most teams don't carry three quarterbacks.

Like, I know it's been a weird year with teams holding onto all these guys, but, like, I don't know, like, they, we just showed Mason Rudolph or Will Howard on the screen, or Tanner McKee or Andy Dalton, like, n- none of these guys are gonna actually save anything if you need them to.

I get the idea- Yeah of having a veteran in the room, someone who can run the offense.

You're not forcing Cade Klubnik in before he's ready.

Like, all that is absolutely true, but, you know, ultimately you're not going into the season planning for everything to go wrong, even if maybe the Jets should.

And they like Cade Klubnik, and so they're rolling with him.

And, you know, ideally if you're, if Geno does have to miss any time, you hope it's later in the season.

You can't really plan for that, obviously.

But i- if you get to the point where later in the season you wanna play Cade Klubnik, you can.

And a, a, a good point that I didn't think of that Aaron Glenn was asked about was one value of keeping Cade as your number two is he's getting all the scout team reps now.

So he's getting- Yeah legit reps. Like, that's, that's valuable for a young kid, as opposed to just, like, sitting and watching, all, working off to the side with the practice squad.

Like, he's gonna be playing the pra- th- doing the scout team and giving the defense looks and things like that, and so I think that's valuable.

Here- here's my only thing that I'll push back with you on that, Zach, and, and I, I Maybe Cade is more ready if he were being given an opportunity to play with the starters than, than we expect, or maybe he'd be better- Yeah if he was gonna, if he was gonna be out there.

But when the Jets went with just Zach Wilson early in his career, or when they had Zach Wilson behind Aaron Rodgers and then Aaron went down and Zach- Yes had to start.

Fair.

Maybe not so much with the Aaron-Zach example, because that was a team that was readying to go to the playoffs and thought they could make a playoff push.

Like, that, that's- Yeah kind of why that thing fell apart.

Right now with the current Jets, if you're telling me you're gonna get 10 weeks before anything funky happens with Geno Smith, I'm fine with Cade Klubnik being the backup.

Totally.

Yeah.

If you're telling me you're, you're gonna get 12 to 14 weeks, totally fine.

If you're telling me you're still gonna get through Halloween and we're gonna be in November around Thanksgiving before you start considering playing Cade Klubnik, I am fine with that.

My problem with having Cade as the backup is that if he is forced to play early, and I know we're playing the if game or we're playing hypotheticals and you can't always live in that world, but if you're forced to play Cade early, I believe that it stunts the development of a lot of the other players on the roster.

And there are a lot of young players on this roster who the Jets are trying to develop, who the Jets are trying to get better, who the Jets are trying to improve.

So when they ultimately add their hopeful franchise quarterback next year, it's an awesome environment to throw that quarterback into.

Yeah.

That you can truly bring out the best and help them reach their potential and develop them.

Um- I don't know if Cade is forced to play early in his career, if he's gonna help Kenyan Sadiq, and he's gonna help Omar Cooper, and he's gonna continue to help Mason Taylor, and he's gonna help the offensive line with protection adjustments up front.

Like, you're gonna miss some of that if you're forced to play him, and it could ultimately be a detriment to everybody else on the field.

Because now you're worrying so much about the quarterback that you're not necessarily worrying a- about everyone else that needs to improve based off of the quarterback.

And again, this is a worst case scenario situation because- Yeah when Geno is out there, Geno has his warts, Geno has his flaws.

Geno's not a great quarterback by any stretch.

But you know that Geno's gonna put something out us on the field where you continue to bring out a lot out of Cooper, and bring a lot out of Garrett, and bring a lot out of G- AD, and bring a lot out of Mason and Kenyan and everybody else on the offense.

You know that Geno can do that because he's gonna distribute the ball, he's gonna facilitate things, and he is a professional starting NFL quarterback.

We can argue about where he falls within 1 through 32, but he is still one of the 32 best quarterbacks in the NFL.

He is a starting NFL quarterback.

If you now throw somebody else out there who, if you were making the big list checks in there at 45, 50 at best, I worry about what that means for everybody else around him, which is why I was still a proponent of going out there and getting somebody else.

With that said, I am a bigger fan maybe than you are, Zach, not necessarily of Levis, 'cause I've heard differing things.

Like, I've talked to people who were on the Titans who liked him a lot, and they were like, "He just needs a fresh start."

He stinks.

I've also talked to people who said, like, there's some, like, personality off Like, there's just some red flags there that you just don't wanna touch him.

Stinks.

Milton's the one that intrigues me the most.

Like, I, I don't need- Yeah Bailey Zappe on the practice squad, bro.

Like, you don't need that.

Yeah, yeah.

Like, I would say go out there and get Joe Milton.

There's legitimate talent there, there's physical tools there.

There's things to try to develop him.

You get him in with a, a guy who has developed quarterbacks before in Frank Wright, see if he can't connect or mesh or things like that.

So, I'm more of a fan of that.

But once you couldn't get the Tanner McKee or the Andy Dalton, fine, run with, run with, run with Cade.

But I, I will stress, man, like, there's concern, there are legitimate concerns about the resounding impact of what happens all around the quarterback if something were to happen to Geno early.

Yeah.

I, I totally agree with that point.

If Cade Klubnik is starting within the first eight games of the season, then that's not good.

Yeah.

But, like, my, my point was also largely like they, they, they decided this was the path they were gonna go.

If they were gonna sign a backup quarterback, it would've been in March.

Like, that should've been the time you go and get somebody.

No, they did try.

And I, like- They did try I mean, I don't know how, I don't know how much they tried.

I don't know how much, how hard they tried.

But, somebody ac- There was just a comment that was up there, about Joe Milton, like saying like, "If you don't believe Cade Klubnik's ready, then why would you put like Joe Milton in the room who also needs development?"

Yes.

You're not bringing in Joe Milton necessarily to be like the veteran third to develop, I mean to, to mentor or anything.

You're bringing in a guy who has some arm talent and seeing if you can get anything out of him.

Like, that's more what that is, I would say.

Yeah.

And I, I will say this, like somebody did make a point of this.

I saw it on Twitter.

I forget who, who it was in a response to, but it was basically, "Okay, you wanna go all the way out there and we lose Geno Smith.

Well, Cade Klubnik's probably gonna win what?

Three or four games this year?

You're gonna go get Andy Dalton and he's gonna win what?

Four or five?

Like, is the one or two-game difference really worth it?"

And my counter to that is, from a win-loss perspective, you're right.

But with Andy Dalton out there or a veteran out there, or somebody that you know is at least a professional NFL quarterback and a little more pro ready at the moment than Cade is, I just feel better about the evaluation and development of all those around him.

Like, I feel like they can improve what is a very young team and a developing team.

They can help stabilize things more than you would a rookie.

Well, now you're dealing with a rookie quarterback and rookie quarterback flaws with a wide receiver and a tight end and everything else.

But I agree with you.

Like, it's, again, it's, it's Jets' perfect world is not, is not that.

Zach, before we move on here to, just, just some, some general thoughts on the 53-man roster before we do your over-unders, you dropped a story today on The Athletic, if I'm not mistaken.

I have not had a chance to read it yet because, obviously the, the in- insanity that currently is my house here.

But if you wanna just plug it a little bit, 'cause I know it has a lot to do with Woody Johnson, Aaron Glenn.

Garrett's involved in it a bit, so if you can just talk about that, man.

Yeah.

So I, the, the, so the beginning of it is, like I, as I mentioned in our last pod, I track all the throws in team drills throughout the summer and I, and I put out my numbers from Geno and Cade Klubnik.

Who, who Geno targeted the most, Garrett was number one, Eddie Mitchell was number two.

I think Mason Taylor caught like all but one of his targets.

The tight ends had a really good summer.

Yeah, and then I got into like, you know, who I thought the 10 best guys I saw in camp were, a, a little bit of a, a rookie report.

And then at the end of it, and the thing that's kind of getting latched onto a little bit was that, you know, I think people have made a lot of assumptions about Woody Johnson and Aaron Glenn, their relationship, their future, based on things that have happened in the past, which I get to a degree.

Like, Robert Saleh fired in season, the Jets have a terrible season last year, they're the kind of the laughing stock.

Aaron Glenn fires half his coaching staff.

Like, these are all very fair things to point out.

But I think, the thing that gets lost is that Aaron Glenn and Woody are a lot closer than people realize.

I think they have a really, really good relationship, and I do not think that Woody and Robert Saleh did.

And I, I don't think that's nothing.

No, they did not.

Yeah.

Like, and, and I don't think either of them liked each other, and Woody did not hire Robert Saleh.

And Woody hired Aaron Glenn.

He made him the highest paid head coach in team history.

He's all, he was all in on him then, and I still think he wants him to succeed.

So like sure, if, if the season's a complete disaster again, could I see him getting fired?

Absolutely.

But from everything I understand, like, there's not like a win total where there's like, "If you don't hit this number, we're firing you."

It's all about, it's gonna be all about context.

Like, obviously he can't win three games again.

But I think it's gonna be about the context of how competitive they are, how they look at the end of the year, how much better the defense is, how the offense looks under Frank Reich.

Like, there's a lot of factors that are gonna go into it.

Yeah.

But it's not gonna be like, "Oh, you only won X amount of games, you are fired."

Like, it, it's gonna be a lot more complex than that I agree, and I, I, the whole win total thing, I, I think there's a m- a mile marker you gotta hit.

Like, again, three or four wins it, it's, it's not- Yeah it's not gonna happen.

Five wins, I still, you can go the depends on how it looks with the five wins, but a competitive six-win Jets team I think results in Aaron keeping his job.

I do.

And, and, and the whole, like, Aaron's gonna be, AG's gonna be the first coach fired, he's gonna be the first one let go- Yeah oh, it's Darren Mooji's show now, like I, I don't, I don't see that happening.

It, it would take a very, very unique situation, and I don't know if there's a realistic one that actually could transpire that would involve Aaron, like, Aaron getting fired in-season.

I really don't.

I mean, the, like, if I'm not mistaken- No, it's weird wasn't Sala like the first, the first coach- The first to be fired in-season by this franchise or something like that?

Like- Well, 'cause w- Or, 'cause of the Woody Johnson side I think, I think that's why we, that's part of why we were alwa- we were all so shocked.

I mean, it was also the timing of it in general, but, like- On Tuesday the whole thing l- Yeah yeah.

Well, and, like, early in the season, but, like, yeah, before that, Woody has been the owner since, what, 2000?

And he had never fired a coach in-season before- Yeah until Sala, so, like- Yeah especially- And I mean, great years because he picked Yeah.

Yeah.

It, well, and especially because he picked this one, too.

Like, that's notable.

Yeah.

Yeah.

The other c- you know, you know what's funny is, like, well, and then we're gonna move on here just quick to break down the 53-man roster is, or some, some thoughts on the 53-man roster.

It's like a little back and forth.

But that, I, I think you and I had something similar going on was we had kinda gotten wind.

Somebody called me from in the Jets building before that Viking game that ultimately cost Robert his job, and they basically said, like, "Yo, it's getting weird over here."

Like, "Things are getting a little weird."

there was- It was after that Broncos game.

Yeah.

There, there was a meeting between, like, really high up Jets higher-ups, and Robert, and Joe Douglas, and when that thing let out, like Robert and Joe came out, like, faces white like they'd seen ghosts.

And it, it was v- basically worded to me that if we lose this game, Robert's getting fired.

Like, they need to win this game to, to, for Robert to keep his job.

And I remember calling my bosses and being like, "Hey, look, this isn't firm enough to report."

Also, you can't report somebody's gonna get fired if you lose a game and then suddenly they ke- like, it's not something you can report.

Yeah, yeah.

But it was like, "Hey, we need to be on this one.

We need to be ready to go."

And two things happened.

Like, the Viking game, they played, that was an undefeated Viking team that they played so close, and it came down to, like- Yeah a non-coaching mistake that cost him, and then nothing happened on Monday.

So I remember, like- Yeah calling my boss back and being like, "Hey, so, like, I'm texting him now.

Like, he obviously hasn't been fired yet."

They're already through Monday.

He told me he's already preparing for, like, it was the Bills the next week.

Like, he's already preparing for the Bills.

Like, they're put- he's met with his staff, they're putting their game plan together.

Like, we're probably pretty good.

And then of course Tuesday, I'll never forget it, like, I'm feeding Brooke her bottle 'cause Bree was working that day, and I see my phone light up with a tweet from Schefter, and then I texted Robert and was like, "Uh, is this true?"

And he goes, "Yeah, I just got fired."

And it was like pshoo, the whole thing fell apart and it was wild.

But, like, I, I think that was such an anomaly situation, uh- Yeah that it, it probably, I, I don't, I don't foresee it repeating itself.

In your opinion, the biggest strength of this team is blank.

I think the tight end room.

Especially once Kenyan Sadiq is healthy.

I think that's their best position group on the roster arguably, in my opinion.

I'll be honest, dude, like, I think this is gonna sound weird, and especially 'cause people keep saying, like, "Connor said A.D. Mitchell's nothing more than a three.

Yada, yada, yada, yada."

Like, yeah, dude, going into the season, everyone thought he was a three.

Like, it's, the dude's had a hell of a training camp, now let's see in the regular season.

I think to be different, 'cause I agree the tight end room's good, I think the wide receiver room could be one of the, one of the strengths of this team.

I do.

I mean, Garrett's a legit one.

A.D. Mitchell's looking like a legit two.

You have Isaiah Williams who's had a really, really good summer and looks like he could be that slot.

You have Omar who's gonna get better and better as the season goes on.

Like, I like that receiver group a lot.

All right, your opinion, biggest weaknesses.

Go.

I'm gonna keep it kind of broad and say depth broadly, 'cause I think depth is a concern- Good at a lot of spots.

Offensive line, linebacker, outside linebacker now with Joe Hsi out, the, the safeties.

Like, I, I don't think they have good depth at some key spots.

I don't like cornerback either.

My, mine, the biggest- Yeah weakness is cornerback, and unfortunately, I think that the weakness of the cornerback could be exposed even more if another pass rusher does not step up opposite David Bailey.

Like, David Bailey looks like a total stud, but Will McDonald, I, I think you can agree with me on this, Zach, he's had a terrible summer.

Yeah.

Like, Will has been bad.

Like, I mean, he was working with the twos, and then got an opportunity to work with the ones and didn't look like he belonged there at all.

Like, he just looks like a fish out of water in this new scheme.

It looks like Hsi's gonna miss several weeks.

Could potentially be short-term IR.

Like, who, who else, like, who's your other pass rusher?

There's not an interior pass rusher that they have.

That player is not necessarily there.

I don't see anyone at defensive end, especially if Will McDonald is more like how he looked the vast majority of last year and this summer as opposed to the player the year before where he had double digit sacks.

Like, I think that's, that's a worry to me, and if there isn't a pass rush that can get home and the quarterback has the ability to, like, sit back there a little bit, 'cause when they're double teaming David Bailey, I think that secondary can be exposed a lot.

Like, that, that concerns me quite a bit.

All right, player who could, this is foreshadowing a bit, player who could be moved at the deadline.

Like, we, we should preface this by saying, like, this is if things have gone poorly.

I don't think they're gonna be- Yeah, yeah trading away guys unless Correct.

But, I mean, Will McDonald you just said is the obvious one, so I'll do somebody else.

I'll say, I'll say Harrison Phillips, because he's in the last year of his contract.

He's a veteran guy.

He's someone who could help, like, a contending team if they needed him.

Like, if the, the, but that's only if the Jets are having a bad season, because I do think he's a le- Correct a leader for this team.

Yeah.

This is, this is the same thing in the, in the same flu of, like, this would be if they're having a bad year.

I'll go Jamie and Sherwood.

I think I got Quinnen last year.

We did this question last year and I nailed Quinnen- Okay right on the head.

Yeah, I, but I, I, I felt I got a call from somebody over in Dallas, and they were like, "Hey, just so you know, we're gonna trade for Quinnen Williams."

I was like- "Uh," and they go, "No, like we're- Quinnen will be a Cowboy by the end of the year."

And I like, I remember I like put it out there loosely, and I got a call and, and, and like in trouble like for saying it.

And they're like, "That's not true.

That's not true."

I'm like, "I don't know.

This seems like it's gonna happen," and then it, then it ended up happening, so not, not all, not all sources are bad.

What are you most excited about with this Jets team, Zach?

Honestly, David Bailey.

Like, I wanna see if he can live up to what we saw all summer.

Like, if we could see a rookie pass rusher be as good as he looked- Mm-hmm like that's He's Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate at that point, so that, that, that'll be fun to watch.

Mine is points.

I think finally we're gonna have- a Jets offense that scores points.

I do.

I don't know how much they're gonna let up.

I don't know if it's always gonna be pretty.

It's definitely gonna be some bugaboo games from Geno Smith, like you get throw, sure.

Like, it's gonna look bad at times, but Geno is a guy that is going to be aggressive, and I think with some of these weapons they have on offense, they're- Jets are gonna score some points.

And it's gonna be some games where they might even score over 30, and there might be some games where they push 40, and I think it's just gonna be a more fun situation on offense than we've seen in quite a bit.

Now, if Geno goes down, I don't think there'll be a lot of points, but I think that's one of the things that, that we'll be able to see here moving forward.

I'm kind of excited about it.

Like, j- I, I just hope that one of these guys is good enough.

I, I don't want, if Cade has to play, I hope that we can just have a realistic understanding that this guy was a fourth round pick.

Let's just be realistic about expectations and what we see.

Like, I don't want Cade to make, like, a really nice deep out and have fans blowing up my mentions after the three interceptions like, "Oh look, he's getting it."

It happens with all the guys that are, like, high draft picks.

I don't think it will happen with him, but I hope we can just have, like, a realistic one.

And the other thing I'll, I'll do like a caveat, a little caveat before we move here to our over/unders real quick.

So he has been a 3,000 yard passer or a 4,000 yard passer the last four years, even when he missed time with the Raiders.

So to having that number being 2.8, 2- 2,850.5 tells me they don't think he's gonna play 17.

Over/under on Geno Smith passing yards.

I mean, I'm gonna say over.

That number is, like, crazy low to me, but I think they're banking on the Jets' history at quarterback of guys not surviving the season- Yeah whether it's for performance or health.

So I, I say over pretty easily, personally, but we'll see.

His over/unders on touchdowns, 17.5, similar.

I mean, you look at his career, 30, 20- Yeah 21, 19 the last four years.

I'm gonna go over over both on yards and on touchdowns.

And I do think there's a chance Breece gets in now that he got paid.

Like sometimes when running backs get paid it, like, puts their name back on people's minds and radar, and then when you see him do things, where I could see, I could see him getting in as well.
