John Harbaugh pleased with Giants effort, sustaining lead in preseason win over Miami
Giants head coach John Harbaugh wanted his team to be better in Saturday afternoon's preseason game against Miami than they were during the week. Mission accomplished as Big Blue dominated the Dolphins 26-3. It was a solid effort all-around and Harbaugh was especially glad to see his team extend the lead throughout and not let up.

Appreciate the, appreciate the effort by the guys.
Thought we did a lot of things really well.
I like the way we, handled having the lead in terms of, continuing to play in such a way as to extend the lead.
That's really important to learn how to do that as a team.
We did that.
So I, I do believe we're a, a better team than we were Wednesday when we came down here.
That was the goal, and now we move forward.
What questions do you have?
John, did you look at this almost like a two-quarter, Thursday and then Saturday, and you wanted to get something out of the, the, the, both games together?
We did.
We did.
It was just an opportunity to get two really And you know, I, Coach Hafley does a great job, and, I, I love what they're building and respect what they're building.
We played against him in Green Bay numerous times, two or three times when he was a defensive coordinator.
Their defense is, is playing really hard and tough and, they didn't play any of their starters or anything like that.
They're a young team.
They're gonna be playing, I think, 11 or 12 rookies are gonna be starting for him, you know, so what he's building here is, is, is the right, right, the right way.
So, to come down here and, and the way they competed and everything was really good for us.
So we wanted to, you know, after we thought we did well in the practice, we wanted to make sure we followed up by doing well in the game.
That was, that was the goal, and our guys did a good job of that.
What'd you think of your offensive line?
I thought they did well.
You know, the protection was good.
We ran the ball well.
All that was good.
Physicality in this game was evident, that you were out-physicaling that football team, and that was one of your goals.
Well, I mean, I, we just, we, our guys, our, our guys, our younger guys, we played our backups, you know, so to speak.
But, there's a lot of guys fighting for jobs on this team, and I thought they came out, and they, they, they made a point to try to make their case.
They did a good job of it.
You obviously have, you know, some teams don't have a backup like Jameis.
Mm-hmm.
You know, you know what he, he is really- Yes not sort of a backup.
He's a veteran.
Right.
So do you expect him to play well in a situation like this?
Absolutely.
Jameis, you expect Jameis to play just like that.
You know, Jameis was in control.
He, he, he, he ran the show.
He, he made, you know, he's poised in the pocket.
He was very accurate with his passing.
He just, you know, he played at a high level just like you'd expect him to.
I mean, that's the great, that's a great, a great thing, to have a, have a quarterback like that as your number two.
I mean, Jameis has been a starting quarterback in this league for a long time.
He's started a lot of games, so it's a big, big, I thought he played exactly the way you'd expect him to, to your point, Paul, yeah.
Devin's contributions tonight, what would you say?
Oh, yeah, did great.
I mean, he's, he played like he always plays.
You know, one of the most consistent players you're, you're ever gonna see.

Yes, the microphones they have seen so far.
Oh, yeah.
Well, you know, we, we kind of look at it like we have a lot of work to do between now and then, you know?
So, that's, that's three weeks away, and, we will probably start looking at our first few games in terms of our preparation because those are the games that count.
But we still have, there's still roster battles, you know, and all that, so we're gonna try to take it one day at a time, try to be a better team.
We'll be up back Monday, try to be a better team, you know, after practice Monday than we were when we started it.
Just try to keep it simple like that and see if we can get to that first week of the season as good as we can as a football team.
