Jonah Coleman looks 'legit', gives Broncos 'three-headed monster' at running back

David Marshall and Mike Carmellini break down rookie running back Jonah Coleman's impressive preseason debut against Atlanta -- highlighting his vision, contact balance, and ability to create as a power back that could lighten JK Dobbins' workload.

Video Transcript

Gotta start with probably the most obvious thing, Mike, is that, Jonah Coleman's freaking legit.

Yeah.

And I think, you're absolutely right.

You've been pounding the table all off-season long that this guy is just gonna fill the JK Dobbins role perfectly from day one, shall he ever go down.

And I might go as far as saying this, Mike, maybe you can incorporate Jonah into the fold early on to keep that workload on, RJ a little bit lighter.

What do you say?

Well, you mean JK.

We can keep the- Oh, yes the load on JK lighter, and I agree.

If it's a team with Super Bowl aspirations, you're g- you're gonna hope he's there.

It's weird with him though, David, because he tends to get injured in the weirdest ways.

Like, it's, it's almost like it's not 'cause he's run down he gets injured, it's because, you know, some weird bad luck thing happens.

But, I could see them doing that.

I mean, they're obviously ex- excited about him as we are, and the fact that they pulled him out of the game early, only gave him starter's reps and then pulled him out, that says a lot.

So I don't know if I told you this, but, yeah, Schlereth came on and agreed with me the other day.

He said the same thing.

If- No way if JK goes down, then, Coleman'll leapfrog RJ to the number one running back position, so interesting anyway.

T. Fishes says, "This 53's the toughest one to predict."

We're gonna do that.

We're gonna look at the 53.

We're gonna give you the offensive side of the ball today, first.

But, yeah, Coleman was good.

Pass pro, you know, there was a lot of hubbub about his pass pro, David.

There was only, like, two reps I think, and, he had one bad and one good, so I don't know if we can take too much from that, but his running looked really sharp.

Yeah.

I feel like this is kinda what we were expecting to see from, like, Javonte Williams over, you know, the years, and never quite kinda put that vision together, right?

Yeah.

Mm-hmm.

But you saw the combination of just the, the quickness, the, the physicality, the contact balance, along with, man, just making some cuts that not every NFL running back would seize.

So, that was great, man.

Like, the seven-yard run that he had, the 13-yard run that he had, that, that doesn't happen without being to being able to, like, anticipate.

So, he, he showed, I, I think, a unique ability to, to create for a power back, and that's, really, really exciting, man.

I- Yeah that is probably my biggest takeaway from this game, is that we truly do got, like, a three-headed monster at running back.
