Newly crowned NBA champion Karl-Anthony Towns is eligible to sign a four-year max extension worth $270 million.
While the Knicks big man is deserving of that contract, could we see him take a pay cut similar to teammate Jalen Brunson?
While Towns may want the full amount, it's very hard to envision the Knicks giving him that kind of money, especially 'cause this team is tight for funds, and they recently had to see Mitchell Robinson leave and go to the Boston Celtics, 'cause they did not wanna go into the second apron to afford him.
In order for the Knicks to keep their championship starting group together of Towns, Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, Mikal Bridges, and OG Anunoby, somebody's gonna have to sacrifice other than Brunson.
And now with Towns eligible for an extension after their title run, he's gonna have to be the one to sacrifice.
He is not gonna get the full max extension from the New York Knicks, but he will most likely get rewarded for their title run.
What that cap number looks like and what his long-term future looks like with the Knicks is still up in the air, but I expect him to get a deal done somewhere in the $45 to $50 million annual range, taking a discount from what the max deal could look like.
