A Lakers legend explained why even a potential 76ers championship would not be enough to move LeBron James ahead of Michael Jordan in the all-time GOAT debate.

The debate over the NBA's greatest player of all time has been reignited, but two former NBA veterans believe even another championship for LeBron James wouldn't be enough to end it.
Lakers legend Byron Scott and former NBA player Olden Polynice shared their thoughts on the Fastbreak podcast following LeBron James' move to the Philadelphia Seventy-Sixers.
The discussion centered on whether a championship in Philadelphia, potentially giving LeBron five NBA titles with four different franchises, would finally settle the GOAT debate against Michael Jordan.
Polynice praised LeBron's accomplishments, saying, "No one's doing what he's done.
It's about respecting everybody without diminishing others."
Still, he believes another championship wouldn't change many opinions.
"He wins a championship, he's elevated a little bit more in the conversation, but it's not going to change people's minds.
The Jordan fans are going to love Jordan.
The Kobe fans are going to love Kobe.
It's still going to be a debate."
Scott agreed with that assessment.
He said another title would strengthen the case made by LeBron's supporters but wouldn't settle the argument once and for all.
Scott pointed to Jordan's perfect Finals record as the biggest difference.
"MJ got six, and he did it on six occasions.
He went to the Finals six times, never lost."
He also suggested a different way of viewing basketball greatness.
Rather than naming one greatest player of all time, Scott said players should be judged by the era they dominated because comparing stars from different decades is nearly impossible.
The discussion also noted that LeBron has spent more than two decades building one of the most accomplished careers in NBA history, while Jordan's six championships continue to define his legacy.
For Scott and Polynice, another championship would undoubtedly strengthen LeBron's resume, but they believe the GOAT debate would remain exactly that, a debate.
