Las Vegas Raiders Make SURPRISING Move With Former 4th-Round Pick
Justin Churchill explains why the Raiders moved on from Decamerion Richardson.

The Las Vegas Raiders just got done with their initial 53-man roster, and then the next day made some changes to that already.
I'm Justin Churchill of AZ Sports Las Vegas, and we know that Decameron Richardson was one of the guys who made the initial 53-man roster, but we also know that days after finalizing your 53-man roster for the first time, it tends to change.
Now, the Raiders did have the number one waiver wire spot, and they went out and they got former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Daryl Luter.
Now, this is a guy that they must feel very strongly about because they, number one, used that number one waiver wire spot on, and number two, they are waiving Decameron Richardson for him.
Now, Luter has played quite a bit of football over the last few years for the San Francisco 49ers in a really good defense, and I do think that he can be a pretty decent player for the Raiders.
He can come in and he can be a really good depth guy, and maybe they think he has a potential to even take over that third spot in the cornerback room because we all know that the plans are probably for Jamal McCoy to be the second cornerback, and then we'll see what happens from there.
But as far as Decameron Richardson, he was a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, number 112 pick overall, and we know why the Raiders drafted this guy a few years ago.
6'2", height, 200 pounds, insanely fast, insanely long arms.
This is a guy that kind of was a high-potential pick, a very raw athlete, but the Raiders really loved.
Now, unfortunately for Richardson, he hasn't done a whole lot in his few years being in the league.
I mean, he's only played 11 games in coverage, 330 coverage snaps.
He's been targeted 37 times, allowed 22 completions for 354 receiving yards, gave up two touchdowns, and he has, you know, a few passes deflected.
So Richardson just hasn't really panned out for whatever reason that is.
Now, it is kind of a stunning move because this is a guy who's very young, was drafted by the franchise a few years ago, but in, you know, on the other side of things, that was, what, two regimes ago.
So this shows that maybe the Raiders feel like Luter has a higher potential right now maybe or even higher potential in general.
So we'll have to see kind of what gets done there, but Richardson is a guy that I think is an NFL player.
Now, where that is, what his role is, don't really know, but he's a guy who he has everything in front of him.
He has the talent.
He has the athleticism.
He has the body type.
It's just about putting it together, and he had a really good training camp.
A lot of people thought that he was deservingly made the 53-man roster, but in that final preseason game, when you see him out there playing until the very last snap of the game, you kind of start to wonder, okay, but how did the Raiders feel about this guy?
Because usually guys that you know are making the 53-man roster aren't playing until the last snap in the last preseason game.
So that was kind of all she wrote, and yeah, now Richardson is no longer on the team.
We'll see what happens with him, but yeah, the Raiders, they must really like Luter.
