The 'Little Things' Continue to Plague the Seattle Mariners
One of the first things I remember about the Dan Wilson-led Mariners was the importance of doing the little things, but those things aren't happening, and they bit the Mariners again on Wednesday.

They are nine games under .500.
They are five-and-a-half games back in the American League West.
The season is certainly slipping away, and this weekend against Houston will be the ultimate test of whether it has completely slipped or not.
But for now, the little things continue to plague the Mariners just like the big things do.
So let's look at the little things from Tuesday night's loss, or from Wednesday night's loss rather.
Colt Emerson fails to get a bunt down in the second inning.
Mariners were up 3-0, had a chance to play add-on, fails to get a bunt down, then strikes out.
Then the Mariners hit into a double play, can't add on.
Yankees come back and score to make it 3-1, and eventually start whittling away before they win 10-5.
Mariners missed two cutoff men in the outfield, one of which probably was the difference between a really close play at the plate and no play at the plate at all.
So Dan Wilson, one of the things I remember about meeting him first in spring training in 2025 was his insistence at how important the little things were, and those little things have gotten away from the Mariners far too often this season.
