Lombard Brothers Homer in Debut Games: A Historic Night
Jacob Lombard homers in his minor league debut, while his brother George Lombard also hits one in his major league debut. A big night for the Lombards!

But I do wanna mention, St. Louis and New York, and go back to last night real quick.
Because- to see what happened yesterday was just truly incredible.
To see Jacob Lombard, who was the Marlins 14th overall pick, homer in his first at bat in Jupiter, Joe, which you could've seen.
Mm-hmm.
I don't know why you didn't go.
You could've went to the game last night.
You live five minutes away from there.
Yeah.
He hit a home run- And which I was at in his first at bat.
Right.
And then his brother, in his first Major League at bat, homers too.
And in fact, I've told you the story that I know his parents very well.
Mm-hmm.
And they were asked, why didn't they go see Jacob play his first game in Jupiter?
And Jacob said to his, the mom and dad, "What are you, nuts?
You gotta go see George play his first- Right Major League game."
Right.
And so they went.
Yep.
And imagine being the parents there.
Like, what an amazing night, to have both of your kids' Minor League debut, Major League debut homer in the same night, man.
A- and by the way, I think I saw- Yep the exit velocity and launch angle were exactly the same for both kids.
I mean, this is crazy.
That's crazy.
Crazy, crazy stuff- That is crazy happening yesterday.
So we'll see what he does for an encore.
I, I, I'm shocked that he homered.
But I think what you saw early in the game, Joe, with him, that I think will play for the Yankees, and unfortunately, it means I have to root for the Yankees a little bit, 'cause to root, I have to root for George.
Yeah.
So I have to root this- this much for the Yankees, is that his defense is much better than Volpe's.
His defense is- Oh, like night and day he's gonna be Yeah, yeah.
His de- he's gonna help them- Night and day a lot defensively.
Yes.
Night and day.
They did, the Yes Network, was in the stands and they did a couple of innings with his parents.
And you know, Detroit gave him the pass to actually- Yeah go to Yankee Stadium, 'cause he should've been out on the West Coast in Seattle, with the Tigers.
But they did, they allowed him to go.
And I, and I believe their mom was on her way to Jupiter and had to change the tickets because she did, they didn't, they learned last minute that the Yankees were actually calling him up, and for the game.
So she was actually, they were coming to Jupiter to see his first game, you know, with the Marlins here.
And unfortunately, you know, the frequent flyer miles, I'm guessing they went ahead and had to exchange that- Yeah 'cause we're going- Definitely to the Bronx instead.
So, and kudos that- Yeah they did.
Pretty impressive stuff.
I, I, listen, I don't know- That was great what is the, what is the brother play with the Marlins?
What position is he drafted at?
He, he's also an infielder.
He's also an infielder.
So shortstop, maybe third base, depending.
He's still young, he could still grow and get bigger, you know.
Guy, guys usually get bigger in the big leagues, 'cause now the weight rooms are- Right more professional.
But yeah, he was a great, Joe, he, Jacob Lombard, the younger, the younger one, he was a great soccer player at Gulliver.
They live down in Pinecrest.
Right.
And there was a time where he was playing exclusively soccer and, like, not playing with the baseball team, and it was, like, pissing off the coach- Wow of the baseball team.
But he, like, loved soccer so much, and it just came to the point where he and his dad and his family just basically like, "Look, if you plan on making Major League Baseball part of your life, you're gonna have to commit..." Like, I, I'm big on all, playing all the sports, okay?
Until you- Mm-hmm are, like, 17.
But at some point, Joe, at like 17, 18, you have to specialize on something.
You gotta major, yeah.
Not when you're 12 or 13.
That's what the insane part- Right about youth baseball is now, is that all these kids are just specializing in one sport at 9 and at 10.
Yep.
Which is insane.
But when you get to 17, you do have to sort of make the choice as to what you think your future is gonna be.
So eventually, he did make the choice, and he moved away from soccer, to, back to baseball.
But growing up in a Major League clubhouse and being on the field with your dad all the time, and he put a lot of work in, I know, through the years.
So I, I'm not surprised they both are in some way i- in Major League Baseball or Minor League Baseball.
But last night was flat-out shocking to see that happen.
The, the way it played out like that.
I, I just, I, I c- I was just so happy for them, I couldn't believe it.
It w- I, I mean, I mean, honestly, Joe, top five story in baseball this year, what happened yesterday for those two.
It may be high, may be number one, but one of the top stories of the year.
I agree.
Turned a great double play, and both I think the second and fifth, so defensively.
