Mark Messier Says He's 'Absolutely Shocked' by Oilers' Mike Babcock Hire

NHL legend Mark Messier sharply criticized the Edmonton Oilers for hiring Mike Babcock as head coach, saying he was "absolutely shocked" by the decision. Speaking on an ESPN opening night media call, Messier cited stories from "reputable people" about how Babcock treated them. The hire comes after Babcock's departures from Toronto and Columbus, with Oilers players reportedly playing a big role in bringing him on board.
